adding an application - package manager freezes

    Limpus 512ram + 13.9k ssd
    advanced desktop
    running compiz

    I have been able to add packages in the past. Recently, when I go to add a package, the update manager progress bars stops at about 25%. It does this whether I'm hard-wired to the network or wireless. Usually I must restart linux to continue.

    Typing sudo yum update brings up the
    fedora 100%
    updates 100%
    Setting up Update Process
    ...and then nothing . I see the router lights flashing, but slowly, not as if I'm getting a major download.

    Thoughts?
