The laptop octopus hubs are really tiny, like 1 inch by 1 inch sized and are like 10 bucks, really cheap on fleabay.

    Thank you
rgarjr, do you know if this "on board port found" switch off when the screen shut down?

I installed a 4-port hub on that new usb finding, works good. There is a large, clear plastic sticked on that part of the mobo so you would need to peel it up, solder your wires, and then lay down the plastic. Very easy to solder on there.

Hey all, been lurking for a bit, but thought I'd post.

Just got an Aspire One this last weekend at microcenter, it's the 150 blue model.

I have been looking into doing the internal bluetooth mod to it and recently ordered a micro usb cheapie off of ebay. For the time being I can use my bluetooth GPS to provide GPS functionality, but maybe in the future I'd like to install one internally.

Here's my question with the USB header that's on there, even if the 5V+ and ground are dead on the second port, as long as the draw isn't too great from two devices, you should be fine to run 2 separate USB devices off of one power header. The header can provide 500mA of power and if a bluetooth and GPS module only draw 100-200mA you should have no problem.

Has anyone checked to see if the data wires are live on the second port? Even if you weren't comfortable pulling two devices over one feed there are lots of other places to go and get an additional 5V supply.

I just add in a bluetooth, the GND is very hard to wired. I am not sure why a empty port stay there, may be will be a offical bluetooth later? Currenly I put the bluetooth beside the speaker, I will move it to the enpty sim card position. also I am planning to add a hub. Also I am thinking about the Turbo Memory. Because I am using the Vista Business. I am not sure how fast it will be but will just try and see.

Thanks man, you make this come true, I belive AAO is much more fun then eee. At less, the case is looks much better. ^_^

If this port is prepared for future BT extension you should be able to activate/deactivate it via Function keys I believe...

Could someone switch off their wifi (via the front switch) and see if the USB port still works/has power ?

The WIFI switch doesn't do anything to that USB header.

I´ve got mine installed today without any probs! Soldered it onto the unused USB-port. Works like a charm!

BTW, How much currency can this additional USB-port provide? Is it 500mA as all the others?

The extra internal USB port works very nice, much easier to access than use the PCIE for USB.

Not the best picture but it shows little how to connect the cords needed.

Picture is perfect to show where the USB port actually is and how to use it... :) In my case I have 4 pin right-angled connector soldered - similar to those for FDD power connector. Pins are matching soldering pads perfectly and I can quickly disconnect HUB I'm using from the motherboard...

Could you post a picture? What was the connector you used? A part number or online catalogue link would be very helpful.

This sounds like a clever approach. I would like to do the BT mod now but if I decide later I want more USB ports, it would be handy to be able to unplug the BT adapter and plug in the hub without having to solder on the motherboard again. I am an experienced solderer, but mostly on less delicate parts so I am keen to keep it to a minimum.

TBH I took it from very old sound card - one of those with black connector for CD link. Similar to this: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear ... &R=0452549 or may be it's even the same... All you have to do is check gap between pins on motherboard side...

Thanks melhiore, I probably have one of those in a box somewhere.

If anyone has their One in pieces and can measure the pitch (ie the distance between the pins), can you post it here please? If you are measuring it, you will get a more accurate result by measuring the distance between the outside pins and dividing by three rather than trying to measure the gap between adjacent pins.

I have not seen one smaller than the one I photographed and posted about in this thread viewtopic.php?f=43&t=634&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=10. It doesn't look that small until you take it apart. It also has the advantage that the USB sockets are not soldered onto the board which minimises the risk that you will damage it desoldering the sockets.
