do you mean that even though you solder something on it, you could have to turn it on with some switch or a keyboard shortcut?

the wifi switch to the left??

Put a standard USB connector on the TS module and plug it in the side of the computer for testing of the module and screen.

    CN11 wiring; there are two rows of pins, a row of 5 and a row of 4. Only the row of 4 is working and the pin out should look like this;

    Row of 5; O O O O O
    Row of 4; V D-D+G

People have commented that the CN11 port is not switched.

Bios is checking the device? Maybe. I don't know what the normal fuction of the module LED is, my TS has not arrived yet.

    Have you loaded the drivers?
Does the TS show in the device manager?

ok so i did connect it on a usb then plugged it in to my vista laptop, nothing, i installed the drivers..it showed!!! ffs that means it was working yesterday its just that my AAO didnt have the drivers installed..

HOWEVER, after i re-resoldered it onto my AAO, put the drivers, and restarted, now the AAO SHUTSDOWN after the boot screen when it tries to enter windows..

what does this mean? i put the GRND cable around a screw and the 5v cable on the little chip in the bottom middle of the mainboard like shown in the other tutorial. is it because of one of the 2 cables?!

I thought you were using CN11? Check all four connections.

(i sent you a pm, dont know if you've seen it yet..)

anyways i have checked the 4 connections, they are independant of eachother.. the thing is the AAO was fine b4 i installed the drivers, i mean i was in xp and everything was normal..after i installed the drivers was when it started to shut down after the boot screen, it happens just the milisecond b4 the logon screen. i tried safe mode, but nothing, im at work now, but when i go home im going to try de-soldering it (all i have to desolder is the 5v cable and it shouldnt power up right?) and see if the laptop boots up.

if it doesnt, what do you think happened? what if the gnd cable isnt soldered properly? what would happen then?

The connections sound fine (In your PM), just verify that none of the solder connections are bridging two solder pads...

Maybe you can do a system restore to before the driver install.

It goes all the way to the windows decktop before shutting down? Do you make it to the desktop in safe mode? If so do a system restore.

Disabling the soldered wires would most likely require removing V and both D- or D+.

the weird thing is that b4 the drivers, everything was fine, nothing moved, absolutely nothing moved, and after the restart it just kept dying at the logon screen..so i dont know why it would be a soldering/hardware thing :/

i cant do a system restore cause i cant even get into safe mode :/

anyways i'll try to de-solder and see what happens and re-post..

Can you access the bios? The Aspire One losing the bios is pretty common. There is a bios update for a flash drive.

Thanks for the links, i'll give the system restore a shot.

i can access the bios. what do you mean losing the bios?

the thing is i do see the windows loading bar, and just when its fading out to say welcome, thats when it shuts off..it just dies. do you think that has something to do with the bios?

stupid point: what if it doesnt have enough power as it tries to power up my now recognised touchscreen controller (without the touchscreen..i havnt connected the ts yet.)

or due to the fact that it now recognises it in windows if the ts controller is activated, do you think my wiring can create a short?

thanks again man, really helping me here :)

I don't think it would be a bios problem, because it is almost to the login screen. The problem people are seeing with the bios dumping is nothing but a blinking curser, or maybe some hard drive noise.

Either completely disconnect the TS hardware or connect it, but leaving just the screen disconnected does not sound like a good idea to me.

ok you were kinda right, the reason why it kept turning off is because i had not connected the ts to the connector, i soldered the connector temporarily to a usb and installed the drivers etc while it was on there and it works great..so all i got to do is put it on the CN11 now..will post tonight when i get home from work :) thanks for all the help.

i was wondering..for future expansions such as a usb hub on CN11..do i have to 1st solder a hub on the cn11 and then connect the ts controller on the hub?

Yes, the USB hub would come from CN11 and then the controller would connect to the hub.

    Glad you got it working!!

Where are you mounting the controller?

well im going to mount it on the CN11. but what im going to do for now is get some wires from CN11 to the hole for the 3g..where the hub will go later, and then solder the controller cables onto the cables from CN11 so i can desolder them later when i add the hub.. what do you think? i am going to mount the controller ontop of the HDD like in the tutorial in the HOW TO section. got to insulate it 1st though..right now its just on a usb cable in a usb slot. as if it were an external controller. one weird thing: my screens' zif cable is on the left :/ not on the right like in the tutorial on the forum..

meh anyways, will post again soon :)

The kits from Fidohub have the wires on the right side of the screen. Dealextreme and Toptouchscreen kits have the wires on the left side of the screen.

I have seen the controller mounted in two locations, on top of the hard drive and also under the daughter board. I am thinking about either adding a hub under the daughter board with one USB connector routed to the 3G slot or maybe not even adding a hub. The few USB devices I would like to add can simply be pluged in as needed.

I am going to try and add a audio sound card connector at CN11, so that things can be disconnected easily. I have an old sound blaster card here to get the connector from.

    My planned upgrades;
    External antenna
    4965AGN WiFi card
    320G hard Drive
    1G memory
    Touchscreen
    Internal USB hub??

hm, well mine was from e_shopkit from ebay. and it was on the left, for anyone who is interested.

you mean the 3g connector is different to the CN11 connector? well that can be handy since you can turn stuff off and on..why add a soundcard?

Some people have added the 3G connector to the motherboard, I believe it is a mini PCI-E connector. But it is very hard to find the connector and to solder. The other option appears to be to use a USB 3G adapter, which you could wire to a hub from the CN11.

Not a sound card, just the connector. A right angle 4 pin flat circuit board mount connector, which I hope to use for adding USB from the CN11 pad.
