so you'll use that as a 1 port usb hub?

Either as a single port for the TS controller or feeding a four port hub. The hub might feed; TS, internal Bluetooth and a open USB connector in the 3G compartment, but I am thinking the hub is over kill. I have a number of the flat four pin connectors so building different configurations should be simple.

I'm planning to do this by soldering on a USB extension cable that is extended and accessible via the A1's hatch intended for a 3G device, so that I can put in any device that will fit in that compartment. Are the lead colors standardized to be...

    red 5v
    black gnd
    white d-
    green d+

Is this standardized? If not, what is the order if looking at the contacts (facing bottom) of a male USB cable?

    In this thread;
    viewtopic.php?f=43&t=10085
a poster claims that the CN11 port can be turned off. I would imagine it is switched off by disabling the port in Window's device manager.

I have noticed after closing up my Aspire One from the Touchscreen install, that the left side motherboard USB connector no longer works. (I know it worked when the 5v leg was opened from the CN11 port)

So since my touchscreen is wired off of the internal CN11 USB motherboard header connections, I am wondering if using the CN11 port defeats the left side USB port?

    Can anyone comment?

I also got mine from e_shopk. Where did you end up placing the controller board? The board that came with mine looks to be a USB hub as well, with female connections for USB in, the screen, and three additional USB ports. These ports are small, so it was an unexpected surprise to say the least.

Problem is, using the supplied wires and the ribbon going off the left side, leading the wires through the left hinge I don't think it gets passed the motherboard (I haven't put it back together yet, board is with my dad so he can get someone experienced to solder the CN11 connections). Leading it out the right hinge only leaves me with 2 inches or so to play with. Certainly not enough to reach the 3G slot.

when i go home i will send you some pictures that i have, yeah i got it from e-shopkit too. i had to de-solder the connectors on each end so that its just the chip.

i wired some cables to the 3g port, then soldered some wires there. and wired them back to the chip which is placed on top of the HDD so that if i ever want to add a hub, i only need to open the 3G slot and just de-solder the wires..

send me your email in a pm and i can mail some stuff to you..

The wires appear to be in the correct place, I have mine connected the same way, but on the other side of the motherboard.

I think what may be happening is that you have used a little too much solder, and the flux has bonded to the PCB, and not to the slightly indented solder point.

I would advise removing the wires, and resolder. What you need to do is to expose about 5mm of cable, and lightly tin it. This is where you heat just the wire, and apply a little solder to it, so you have a light coating of solder around the wire. If the solder joint on the mainboard is indented a little, you can heat this, and apply a small amount of solder. Then position the tinned wire on the joint, and heat it until the solder on the two melts together. You should not have to apply any more solder to the joint. Don't apply the soldering iron to any surface longer than 2 or 3 seconds, otherwise you might damage the PCB. This should give you a much neater job, and make it easier to spot any problems.

I would remove and attach to a USB cable and test in one of the side USB ports.

If the wire has a small amount of tin applied and the iron is tinned, you will be able to get smaller solder joints.

    hi all

just got a small 4 port hub for future install on the MOBO

tested it with all the usual dongs the normal way and got some results that get me worried about installing it on the inside:

couldn't use any unpowered mem sticks - got messages about power requirement exceed and got directed to usb part of device manager in the systems hardware control panel.

the usual wireless mouse, extra usb sound card, mp3 player ect were drawing about 90 to 100 mA and worked fine through the hub - memory sticks took about 200mA on another usb out and caused error message to pop up when used through the hub - you can check all the power outs in usb section of device manager by the way - very cool. The usual port can out as much as 500mA - what is the problem with drawing that through the hub? some of earlier posts suggested some of those small hubs you placed inside were "fully loaded" with stuff - how is your power management on the inside port?

and on the same note - looking through the usb manager in system control panel i noticed 10 usb ports active and ready - 8 on one mobo hub - and it seems the right side sockets are on that one along with the webcam, and two more - one of which is the left side socket - on another hub. Maybe i'm interpreting the info incorrectly - but check for yourselves.

anybody has any ideas where all those ports might be hidden on the board - maybe there are more places like CN11 yet to discover? anybody has full MOBO layout - similar to the ones we are all used to in case of desktop comps MOBOs? maybe the other side of CN11 is active and connected anyway - just power has to be shared - anybody tried that one yet?

    thanks

    1 leftside
    Web camera
1 of WiFi Mini PCI Express connector
    CN11
1 on 3G Mini PCI Express mounting pad.

That is 7, did I miss any?

The SSD module connector / mounting pad should also have USB. (according to the block diagram)

    So that is 8.

Does anyone know where the two usb lines (D+ & D-) are on the SSD connector?

How would I reverse engineer their location?

i thought you had the HDD version..if you do, doesnt that take up the SSD USB lines?

SSD USB lines appear to be separate from SATA.
