After installing Firefox 3 to a 2nd generation Linux AA1 my "Add-Ons" window no longer works. This happened after I installed "New Tab Homepage"

The newly installed add-on works but the add-on window is now has nothing in it except for this script (and I'll try to replicate it here):

    <window xmlns : rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-snyntax=ns#"
    ^

I have no idea what this is.

I just finished doing a similar install/add-on install in a 1st gen. AA1 and it works perfectly.

Someone suggested moving the .mozilla file elswhere and then rebooting to see if a third part plug in is the cause of the problem. If not then they suggested uninstalling FF3 then reinstalling it.

Can someone direct me as to how to do these functions?

Isn't FF2 actually layered under FF3 due to some dependency issues?

Mozilla chat tech suggested I disable all add-ons by running Firefox in safe mode.

I attempted to run firefox in safe mode following their instructions to run this script in the terminal:

    /path/to/firefox/firefox -safe-mode

Using both the alt-F2 window (got an error message saying that there is no such file or directory)

and attempting to run it directly in the terminal. Nothing happened. All I got was a blank terminal window with a large black cursor in the upper left-hand corner.

Another thing I noticed is that "check for updates" command in the "help" tab is DISABLED. What???????

FF3 is barely beyond beta stage and many of the various version 2's addons won't work in FF3. As the add on creators pass their beta stage, the newer version of that particular add on gets distributed to the general population. I think you might have had a corrupted FF3 installation, as when the newer version loads and installs, it warns you of all incompatibility issues with addons , automatically. As they become available FF3 also pops up a notice that a newer version of the add on is available for download and installation.

What I cannot understand is that I have done this Firefox 3 upgrade on TWO DIFFERENT AA1's with differing results. I did the FF3 upgrade to a series one (512mb RAM, 8GB SSD) and the results were PERFECT.

It's the second AA1, a series 2 (1GB RAM, 16GBSSD) where I have experienced the trouble. Right off the bat I noticed that there was no Google toolbar that appeared in the newly installed browser whereas the first one did. Like the toolbar or not, it's part of the download.

As of this moment I'm doing a destructive USB recovery. We are gonna start from scratch.

NOTE: RECOVERY DVD's FOR THE VARIOUS SERIES OF AA1's APPEAR TO HAVE DIFFERENT DATA ON THEM. I TRIED TO DO A RECOVERY ON A SERIES 2 WITH A USB STICK LOADED WITH DATA FROM A SERIES ONE RECOVERY DVD (BY ACCIDENT). I COULD NOT COMPLETE A RECOVERY USING THAT USB STICK AND HAD TO MAKE ANOTHER WITH THE SERIES 2's OWN DVD DISC.

Reloaded Linpus, did the minor system tweaks, loaded Firefox, added my desired add-ons, and then disabled all uneeded languages.

    the 'add-ons" window....as of now...is intact.

    So far...so good.
