I'm almost done downloading. 90% and no seeds. I've extracted the partial download. Everything you need is on disc 2. In patch folder disc 2 use uniextract161 to extract the Acer config mgr for android. In set folder there is a wim create android instant on partition extract it the same. Also referenced are a android.reg in C/acer/preload/ which probably sets that android config has not been run. C/windows/cleanup.cmd seems to be needed too. It can be run by amsetup.exe which will partition a d:/ 4gb it seems and install the config mgr. I think its using a vm not an actual linux partition though. Ill post more findings after I get the download completed. FYI I ran the amsetup.exe on my desktop and it installed. I didn't run the config though as it wasn't a complete download.

so for some reason, my posts arent posting. this is attempt #3.

so your steps worked fine, cleanup.cmd isnt needed. and also the installer changes our bios (theres now an option on the logo screen to press F9 to boot to windows *or android, depending on your settings*

bad news for some users, the broadcom wifi does not work. seems it only works with the atheros card. can anyone give me the exact model number of the atheros card? (edit: listed in this thread.. AR5B95) 3g works if you have it installed (only the 3 various stock cards).

was able to install to a 4gb partition (4096MB in gparted) on an already installed xp system. will see what this does to a windows 7 install later.

So with the extracted files, I was able to install Android on a preexisting Windows 7 drive.
Users will still need to manually create a 2nd partition (4gb) on their drives.

NOTE: THIS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED ON A D250 MODEL. THE INSTALLER PATCHES THE BIOS. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, ESPECIALLY ON OTHER MODELS.*it probably just enabled a bios flag to enable F9 to boot to alternate os. but still, not sure what this might do if corrupted, or on a different model of netbook.

    Copy Android.reg to C:\Acer\preload\
    Run Amsetup.exe.
After installation, run the Acer Configuration Manager for Android. (its in your start menu)

    Install updates, reboot.
    Enjoy Android.

hartleyshc, thanks for providing the extracted android installer, downloading it by now and will report it later
however im curious, is it possible to pointing the installment drive to another external storage (e.g sdhc card) ? currently my harddrive contains Win XP and Ubuntu Netbook Remix, quiet disturbing if i have to resize all of it and make new partition for android (i also have android-x86 distro on the harddrive, which size is just 2GB FAT32, will it work if i install it on that drive) ?

im not sure about the sdhc card. but it must be 4gb, and it must be your 2nd partition.
now maybe if you had just one full partition, and then a 2nd partition on a sd card, it MIGHT work, but I doubt it.

you will probably have to resize and get the 4gb on the 2nd partiton of your hdd.

dropbox link currently down due to traffic.

it might be some sort of dual boot function built into the bios.

i might play around later this weekend to see if i can get it to boot with grub on another non-acer machine.

meanwhile, waiting for my atheros card to come in to play with it more.

i assume the 532h also has insyde bios?
see if pressing F9 right when the system boots up does anything. I doubt it will, but its worth a try. if not, I might play around with it this weekend, getting grub to boot the partition.

i might need to look back over the xp install, and see if theres missing files. (the actual program used to patch/flash the bios) I originally installed this on a spare 40gb drive, by installing the entire xp recovery install posted earlier. So my bios was already patched when I swapped drives and tried again on windows 7.

I'm working on android-x86 which offers far more than the crappy acer build. I have an AOA110 and will support that model. I have so far all google apps included and working properly on 2.1 eclair. I'm doing some trouble-shooting wifi wise as its not very stable yet (wifi). Everything else works well. To get your acer aspireone model included i need the pci info's. Please under linux run the command lspci in terminal and post your output and your model full model number ie. AOD250, AOA150 etc. I need everything but AOA110. Froyo 2.2 will hopefully be coming soon too.

FYI, i also have tested android-x86 on this machine, and the results are:
    1. donut based build (1.6-r2) : smooth, almost everything works flawlessly, including wifi. except for the ethernet (can not connect even if the configuration is right) and sound (no sound any at all)
    2. eclair build (forgot the build no. ) : laggy, almost unusable because of that. same hardware result test as donut based

hope it might help you to build for AO series, looking forward to hear a good news :D

Ok here is an alpha eclair 2.1 aspireone android-x86 build. Supported models are AOA110, AOD250 (with atheros wlan) untested, vbox & vmware (both untested). There are quite a few extras in there not in AOSP  . On boot if you get to a black screen with a blinking white cursor press enter to continue booting. WLAN is a lttle buggy (turn ethernet off if you use wifi) and must be turned off before powering down or it will not work the next time you boot if its checked. Also, wlan will not reconnect after hibernation and reboot is required to get wifi back. The menu, esc, and up, down, left, right keys will wake up from hibernation press and hold power key to shutdown or reboot. Also of note you must pick the top provisioning option on 1st boot and skip setting up google account. When you configure your gmail acct it will likely not sign in the first time as its expecting you to connect via cellular after you get the cant connect error toggle wifi off then on and reinput your gmail login.

    password is aspireoneusers

see http://www.android-x86.org/ for info on how to have persistant data and sdcard.

Great work you have done here. I have installed it to my aspireone and even the touchscreen i have added works.

Though i have problem getting a dns adress. I can only ping ip adresses, not dns adresses. Do you know why? Any way to fix this? I tried to make a resolv.conf file under /etc, but it says, only read permission, even thoughi am root ( su) .

I have also mounted the partition when i am using another linux distro, but seems like /etc nor /system/etc doesn't exist. Guess it's extracted during booting android..

I have also added a BT dongle to it, and it works great. I also have a USB gps dongle, but withou a dns adress it's hard to test, since google maps need a connection.

Are you using ethernet or wlan? I found in later testing if you are having trouble getting the AP to scan let it hibernate on the searching for wireless networks and when you wake it up they will show. Also, if you have connected before and cannot reconnect use root explorer and delete the dhcp lease file from the data/misc/wifi/dhcp. /system exists read only in the system.sfs /data is created on first boot.

As for dns I haven't had any issues. Try this as su in terminal
    Code:
     setprop net.dns1 <DNS server IP addr>

Setprop did the trick. Now it works great, thanks a lot.

Wlan or eth had the same issue, it refused to get an dns adress. Now i added googles dns with setprop and as i mention, it works like a charm. Any plans of making an image from the 2.2 source? Exchange email support would have been great to have, like Nexus one now supports.
And also, is there a way to make it support norwegian keyboard layout?
