    I don't know, erez1012. :?

All I can suggest is you restart your AAO and do a -commitanddisable -live just after the boot, so nothing will actually be saved.

Re: Problem with EWF on ASUS EEE

Are booting files ntldr, ntdetect.com and boot.ini are in the C: drive on your faster drive?
Or you cloned your windows system to the second slower drive? Therefore they have their own booting files there?
Let's say you'll be booting on your slower second windows, in windows explorer where then will be your current system folders like windows, and documents and settings be located, is it still in d: or it appears now in c: ?

If your current system folders are now in d: intead of c: , change your commands correspondingly
If your system is cloned over, why not change the protected volume at multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)

I would report back when I succesfully implemented EWF on my AAO 8GB ssd (512MB RAM).

Here I am :D I love it! I really think this is the fastest Windows XP I've ever worked on.

I'm wondering what happens when my RAM runs out though. Can anyone share some info on this? I use the tool from Johan and after a half hour on the internet I see the amount of used RAM growing.

I've set up a RAMdisk for temp internet files and I've disabled disk cache in FF3. Stil the amount of used RAM increases.

Anyone any ideas on how to reduce this? Or is there an option to discard your Ram. Like FreeRam or something.

just finished doing this via ewftool AND WOW i have no desire to go back to linux any more. only thing is i couldnt get the batch file for the shutdown commands to work since apparently tinyxp rev09 doesnt have the group policy, or at least i cant find it. but oh well, its night and day different.

quick question for those using HORM

if i change something on the main drive, i do the ewfmgr c: -commitanddisable -live command and ewfmgr c: -enable, reboot and on the reboot i hibernate the system and it should save my new hibernation file or does it need other commands?

also, since i'm using a 16gb sdhc card in the expansion slot now, should i setup a page file to it, or will that not help at all or possibly hurt the speed? currently i have the page file off. i do have my temp files going to it, but i dont know if thats helping or hurting me either.

EWF is limited to using only 512 of ram
    After that the system crashes
Any way to enable it to use more? I have 1.5g of ram. Total Ram usage rarely reaches 1g with EWF reaching its 512 limit

    Cheers

    Hello

You can create a permanent RAM Drive using the ram disk driver and there you can move your TEMP, TMP and firefox cache... So when you use your Acer these files will be written to this part of RAM and not on the EWF part... Also if you didnt did it disable page file...

I did those steps and i dont have any problems with RAM. Another plus is that my Acer now shutsdown real fast because when it runs the shutdown scripts it saves only the changes and not the TEMP, TMP and firefox cache...

Also move your profile to an SD card which is unprotected from EWF... With this you gain RAM as windows saves data regarding your profile in real time and not in RAM first...

    Hope these tips help...

    hi guys,

i had a go at installing EWF once i had installed my nlited version of xp, and things haven't really gone to plan...

i put all the necessary files in system32 ect - all ok
i then changed the permissions on regedit- all ok

when it came to merging the .reg files, the first one worked but the second one didnt. i though it might be something to do with the permisions not changeing, so i restarted.
now everytime i load windows it goes fine untill the welcome screen ends and then it takes, literaly, 5 mins for the task bar to load and everything is REALY slow and i cant do anything apart from cnt alt del and then runung cmd without having to wait 10 mins for each prosses to load :(

what can i do? any similar problems?
    cheers

What a mo... did someone just say this is limited to 512MB??? That means I have 1GB doing nothing (I have 1.5GB). I'm assuming the software will still use the extra 1GB and EWF will simply use the 512MB for caching files? Is this correct?

It doesn't effect the maximum mount of system memory that can be used, just that EWF can only cache a maximum of 512MB before crashing the OS

Followed all steps in the first post, reboot, and run the "ewfmgr c: -enable" line, reboot again.
Everything works perfectly.. Thank you so much.

I registered just to post this.

Thank you to those that discovered this, and shared the VERY useful info.

I cannot believe that MS is not pushing this tech more often. I know to the average user this might not be ideal (having to run a command line to write stuff...), but this little netbook is the fastest PC I have ever used:)

Closing the lid and going to sleep takes about 2 seconds. Waking up takes about 7. Turning on and getting a usable GUI is about 15 seconds. Wowsa!!

    Thanks again,

    Ed

Bang! Starting-up my webcam causes my EWF enabled WinXP to bluescreen instantly. Webcam works just fine if I disable EWF, but if it is enabled, I get a BSOD with some stop-codes related to snp2uvc.sys (USB webcam driver, I believe...).

I don't use the webcam much, so this isn't much of an issue with me. Just wanted to see if anyone else has this problem.

Like I said, webcam works fine if I disable EWF, but using it will instantly crash my system if EWF is enabled.

I have an AA1 (110) with the stock WinXP SP3 installation, with nearly all the bloatware removed. Everything works great, and I'm loving the aa1! I also love this EWF mod. I'll just have to remember to disable EWF if I want to use the webcam... :(

I have the LiteOn driver installed: CCD_LiteOn_v.5.8.33.1. That's how I got it from Fry's. I'll try the SuYin ones....

Well, naturally that didn't work, because I have the LiteOn camera. :p

I think I have a defective camera.... not an EWF issue. Sorry!
