Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. Some people talk big and don't come through.

I appreciate the firewall explanation too and will see to fixing it. I had no idea.

You're very welcome. I think Avira plus an efficient firewall is the best current choice among the free AVs. Best wishes.

    Hello

Install Avast antivirus, very smooth very quick, active scanning, script blocking, light on resources...

Does not slow down I.E or Firefox opening,

    Try it

On the free boat, I must agree Avira Personal along with Windows Defender because Avira does not have spyware detection and keep Windows firewall no other firewall needed.

Light, free, fast and most importantly secure enough for a Netbook. ;)

I trust nothing else but NOD32.... fast, extremely effective, and low on resources. ;)

Just read about this.... did'nt know Norton made a "Gaming Edition" of their antivirus 2009.... hmmm interesting. :D

    Website: http://www.symantec.com/norton/antivirus-gaming/welcome/index.jsp

I'm downloading it right now. Will test it out on a spare desktop system. See if it's what it claims. This would be great on a netbook if ever. :)

If its a free anti virus you're after then you cant go wrong with either AntiVir, Avast or AVG. My personal choice is Avast. I have tried the others in the past and had no issues with them but prefer Avast.

I just came back to XP from Linpus and installed free version of Avast. Doesn't pop-up that "autorun.inf" on my USB flash drive is a virus or something like that like free version of Avira used to. Now I can peacefully make my auto-start applications :) although it seems kind of resource hungry. It's pretty hard to pick out an antivirus from this thread because everyone has their own favourite. It would be nice if there would be some kind of a chart to compare all, most or some of them! ;)

Seems like not to many want to dig into their pockets for protection, I agree 100% with the free ones listed as doing a good job some are a bit sluggish. There are complete suites nothing else to buy, fiddle with, or have conflicts with and that are faster and cover your butt all the way around, I run one of the fastest which is Kaspersky. I ran CA for nearly twenty years and never got whacked but like so many it was a memory hog, face it we are all about speed!
