Any evidence anywhere that AA0 can use 2GB?

My AAO has 1 GB mem & 160GB drive. I don't want to open it up just to add half a gig of mem, but I might be interested if I could move from 1 gig to 2, or 2 1/2. But I've seen no messages saying that the Aspire One can see or use anything about 1.5 GB.

    Anybody seen such?

The machine and it's chipset itself can use 2 GB of RAM.
The problem is that the motherboard has 512 MB worth of unremovable memorychips soldered straight to the mobo and it has only one free RAM slot. This is the reason the One can only use max 1.5 GB of RAM, you can only add up to one gig with one slot because the chipset does not support anything over 2 GB.

If you won't take my word for it, open up your machine and see for yourself ;)

so the thing you can do with other similar machines with 512 on main board where you add a single 2G stick and the machine ends up seeing a total of 2G doesn't happen? On the conflicting material I've read so far the sense is that when inserting a 2G stick the machine simply does not see it -- is this your experience?

No, it doesn't happen. It just doesn't even POST with 2GB installed.

I can't say for other machines alike, but from what I've read the One won't star up at all if you stick a 2GB module in it.

What would cause this to happen? Is it programmed into the bios or something?

Two devices mapped to the same address space attempting to assert the bus at the same time causes contention.
