Is there any problem playing .mkv movies at 720p or 1080p on the D250?

    Frame rate drop alot?

    Unplayable at 1 GB memory?

No chance, it will be a slide show. To play this resolution you will need the Nvidia Ion GPU, look at the HP 311, or the Acer TImelines with Intel GS45, I also have a Timeline 3810T, it plays 1080P no problem using DXVA GPU acceleration, the larger screen makes watching HD a much better experience, and the 8+ hour battery life is no exaggeration.

"The KMPLayer" (KMP) might be the way to go, it will give you your best chance, as it will play MKV`s smoothly that VLC wont touch. You can always try CoreAVC codecs (external video decoder) and "KMP" although there is not much in it these days. CoreAVC as an external decoder might save a couple of % on the CPU. I have 2Gb and some 720P MKV`s are watchable with "KMP"
