    hi :)

i installed a stripped down version of xp this one here, more for the fact of the way it installed than for the version itself, as i couldn't get the other versions on here to work and kept getting bsod.

anyway the remote desktop seems to have been stripped out (i can't find it anywhere in the prog options). i've downloaded it from ms and tried to install that way, but when i do it errors and tells me its already installed??

i use rdc quite alot to connect to my windows home server so can't be without it really. is there any way of me adding it now?? or should i be after another vesrion of xp?

    many thanks for your time

    Gog :)

You should get windows xp professional edition. Home edition doesn't support remote desktop.

Can you find "mstsc.exe" on your disk? This will launch the Remote Desktop client.

mstsc.exe is available on both Home and Pro editions of XP.

On my Home installation it is in C:\Windows\System32.

I found this on another website today and just copy pasted it and forwarded it to my mail to try it at home tonight. So, not claiming that it works or anything but I´m going to try it asap.
    Here it is:

"Hi, just to let you know in case someone else need it, I found how to bring back the remote desktop feature in TinyXp rev05:
Copy the 2 files (mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll) from a working installation in the windows\system32\ folder and run mstsc.exe. This bring up the connection box to connect to a remote computer. It didn't bring back the Remote tab in the "My computer" properties though. That, I don't know how... "

    Happy testing.

Just wanted to say that I tested the above solution yesterday and it was imho a totall sucess.
The drawbacks noted so far is:
#1 the last connetcion is not "prewritten" in adresswindow.
#2 No Rdp on startmenu, I´ve put a shortcut on the desktop.

Other than that it does what I wanted so I´m happy.
