any way to acess restore fuction outside of windows?

    i recieved the dreaded hal.dll error after tinkering the the boot.ini file in preparation for an OSX install. i do not have an external DVD rom drive. is there anyway to hit a magic string of buttons on startup to trigger the Acer Erecovery service. if there isnt, what is the bloody point of having a restore partition if you cant acess it from boot?
