So I bought my Aspire One to disassemble and run headless in a robotics project. I have only had it a day and I really like it... can't wait to void the warranty!

I noticed that the input from the power brick is 19v, but the Aspire One has an 11.1 volt battery. I am theorizing that a good way to run the Aspire One on the 12 volt robot power supply is through the pins in the battery compartment. Does anyone have a diagram of these five pinouts, or has anyone tried this?

I am away from home on a work assignment and I don't have access to my multimeter at the moment.

    Thanks!

I'd also like to know. im looking into building a solar panel mod so that my AAO can run solely off of the power of the sun! i measured the power usage from the power brick. it uses between 12 and 15 watts and around 0.2 amps. i think a solar panel about the size of the screen should be enough. and if thatsthe case, i may order a extra screen enclosure and mod it so that the entire top lid is a solar panel :D

I doubt solar pannel the size of the screen is enough. Probably 4-5 times the size of the screen will work. Solar pannel usually work at around 10-15% efficiency and the ratings of the solar pannel rating are measured under direct high-intensity sunlight. Thus the actual electrical output will be lower than the rating.

Also.. when the LCD screen and wifi is turned off, AAO will only use about 8W-8.5W of power

im thinking more along the lines of not entirely RUNNING the AOO off of solar power, but more, slowly recharging the battery while its running so instead of 2.5 hours from a 3-cell battery, i could be getting 4 or more hours. i know of a place where i can get a 15-watt solar panel, and its huge! but thats only because its output is at 1 amp. thats WAY too much power for what i need it for. im sure a 15-watt panel at 0.25 amps or so should be much smaller.

Are the solar panels very expensive? o.o

You can always get a 6 cell battery for around $80 on sites so i'm wondering which would be more cost effective. but if you wanna go green, this is a pretty kool way for a laptop. i demand pics when your done! :D

heck, maybe i'll get a 6-cell + do the solar panel mod. i could get like 8+ hours :p i'd guess that a solar panel with the right amount of power that i'd need would be around the same price as the 6 cell battery. i'll be sure to upload pics if i ever do the mod. ive done quite a few mods over at notebookreview.com to my Aspire 3680. and i love having projects to keep me busy. heres one i did a while back: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=260624

im planning on doing the same thing on my AAO. im thinking of drilling out the kensington lock port and sticking it there. funny thing i figured out yesterday is that the charger input port is the exact same size as the RP-SMA jack :p too bad i cant just relocate the charging port.
