    Greetings and thank you!!
I called 866-695-2237 the other day and after a bit of chatting I was able to get the recovery disc. I continued reading the post here and discovered that I didn't have all that I needed. Thanks again to the good folks here I today call (about 12:30 Noon EST) Acer again and within 1/2 an hour I have the DVD on its way from Florida to here to the Cape (MA., USA)
The way I got the items was being nice and gentle to the folks at Acer:) After all I find that a "soft answer turneth away wrath..." Proverbs 15:1 :)
I placed the call and spoke with a lovely lady. I told her of my need and she checked my mailing address and I invited her to have a look at my web-site and offerd blessings and thank her and Acer for the kindness :)
I expect to have the item soon :)
I hope this helps and thank you kind folks here and Acer for providing a place to help one another :)
    Happy Holidays
    Larry

The disc set I just received (in the USA) consists of two discs:
Part # RD.S050B.AE1 Recovery Disc (is a DVD with 3.03 Gb of data)
Part # SD.S050B.AX1 System Disc (is a CD with 206.1 Mb of data)

I should also mention that both of these discs appear to be "burned" rather than "pressed"... not that is should matter to end users.

    Hope that helps jhill01 :geek:

If you take a look at the Acronis support in the Wilder Security forums (I guess the "official" support location) you will find a lot of postings of people having problems restoring images. I know because I have been in the position of wasting three days of my life trying and failing to restore an Acronis True Image image. Even though I could mount it and browse it, it would not restore. Tried everything - special debug version Acronis gave me, BartPE rescue disk, etc.

So my suggestion is to read through the Acronis forum and consider carefully before buying it. However, YMMV and if it works for you, great! :)

Received my AAO today and called 866-695-2237. The guy asked what options were available in the eRecovery application. Then asked if I received a USB flash drive or disks. Then asked if the PC has a DVD drive. Put me on hold for a bit then gave me a confirmation number for the XP disks. Said I should have them in 1 - 1.5 weeks.

Now the disks are on their way I can replace XP with Ubuntu.

I had an endless loop with Acer's Dutch[/Belgian] 'support' organization, which varied from telling me I did not need recovery media (What if you have a physical disk crash?), telling me to burn them (which I already *told* them the *One* version of eRecovery *can not do*), telling me to buy them (which I refused, because the documentation implies/says that eRecovery *can* burn discs, and shows a disc in the pictures of the supplied items) and finally said that XP recovery media don't *exist* for the One (which contradicts what they told me earlier).

So if anyone *actually* *received* XP recovery media for the One, then please tell us *how* you went about it and *what* you got, i.e. number, types (CD/DVD)and part/product numbers of the disc(s). Thanks.

FWIW, because Acer left me in the lurch, I made a recovery USB-stick with the procedure in the thread "HOW-TO: Make RescueCD on bootable USB drive with PartImage" (<http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=651>). I used an 8GB stick, but you can probably get away with a 4GB one.

I've seen several similar reports. Imaging software can fail under a number of circumstances, it sounds like really complicated stuff.

    Thanks forum friends.

I called Acer a couple of times for recovery disks and was turned down. They claim that since I bought my AAO at Best Buy, the retail version of my netbook doesn't include recovery disks. The last time, the level1 support guy said I should be able to create the CDs but couldn't figure out how to do that (I know it's not possible). He transferred me to level2 support, but I had to hang up after being on hold 30min. I'll try back again -- won't give up! :)

Acer is sending the recovery disks to me!!! :D

    • I called 1-866-695-2237 and was on hold for 5 min. (I called at 11:30 AM Central time)
Level 1 tech gave me the usual "sorry, you're out of luck," so I asked to talk to a supervisor.
I was on hold another 3 or 4 min. The supervisor came on the line. I didn't have to talk -- he just said there isn't anything he could do but perhaps level 2 tech support could waive the fee for the disks and he transferred me.
After holding about 8 min., the level 2 tech came on the line and after a brief conversation, agreed to send the disks for free.

I was polite, but insistent the whole time. The level 2 tech started out by saying they couldn't send the recover disks to me for free because the software warranty had expired, but he was willing to help me create recovery disks. Then he realized my device is the Acer Aspire One and that creating the disks isn't an option. So....he put me on hold for a few minutes, then came on the line and said he was waiving the fee and I could expect 2 disks (a system disk and one with the OS and drivers) to arrive in a few days (up to 10, I think).

The tech continued to explain that Microsoft requires them to either provide recovery disks or a recovery partition on the HD. In this case, Acer chose to go the latter route. Supposedly they are not required to provide the ability to create recovery disks from the recovery partition (I'm not convinced). "Since your netbook is barely out of the warranty window, I'm willing to waive the fee and send you the disks."

    Whatever.

I hope others read this thread and get their recovery disks! Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. :)

I got similar non-sense from the Dutch/Belgian Acer 'organization'. However the *facts* are:

    - There is a *picture* of a disc in the supplied items list in the Quick User Guide. I.e. Acer does not supply what it says in the documentation.

    - The capability to make recovery discs is *specifically. mentioned in the *supplied* Help of eRecovery. I.e. the eRecovery of the One does not conform to its documentation, i.e. is defective.

    - All *other* Acer notebooks *can* make recovery discs.

    - The Linux/Linpus version of the One *does* have (supplied) recovery media. (I know, I have one.)

    - The capability to make recovery discs (if not supplied) is standard in the industry.

I know that it does not really help to rant here in this forum, but at least we should not accept Acer's non-sense lying down.

All i can say about the costumer support, is... WOW!!

That had to be my best experience with a costumer support for anything! Got a live person within 30s of the call connecting, and it was an American too!! not like some costumer support where they base it in India *cough* Microsoft*cough*. He asked for my AAO S/N and since i was registered, just asked for the recovery cd's and he said he'll send them out :) They were free too. 3-5 business days is all i need to wait he said.. +1 for Acer!!

Just received the disks by FedEx ground, so the total time was eight days. Received a recovery disk and system disk, along with instructions that assume you have a CD/DVD drive...
