The AO532h is being advertised by every vendor as a Netbook that supports 2GB of RAM. I just bought an AO532h and a 2GB stick of 200-PIN DDR2 667MHZ Corsair RAM and the Netbook locks up during POST when I try to boot with the 2GB installed. I also tried a 200-pin DDR2 667Mhz Crucial stick and I got the same result. The Netbook boots fine with the original 1GB RAM stick. I am running the latest BIOS (1.15). I noticed that this ACER page claims the AO532h only supports 1GB:

    http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/netbo ... hsp2.shtml

A 1GB RAM limitation does not make sense. The prior gen Netbook (AOD250 N270/N280) supports 2GB and Intel claims that the new Pine Trail chipset (NM10) used in the AO532h supports 2GB. Has anyone successfully installed 2GB in an AO532h?

I am having the same problem, with the same results. Acer is very vague on memory upgrades. What puzzles me is that the memory that came with the computer is PC2 6400 not 5300. Is it just that the memory runs at 800 and not 667?

Mine came with 667Mhz RAM. If yours came with 800Mhz RAM then it will only run at 667Mhz. This 1GB limitation is a real shame.

I emailed Acer and got the following response:

Thank you for contacting Acer America. I will be happy to assist you with this computer memory issue.

After verifying your serial no :- xxxxxxxxxxx, we found that your product is in warranty but not registered yet.

Please be informed that as per the specification your computer supports 1 GB soDIMMs for total system memory of up to 1 GB.

Go through the following link to get the specification of Acer Aspire One 532H :-

Please be informed that Acer does not recommend altering the hardware configuration. You have the option of upgrading or changing the hardware configuration at your own discretion. However, it is preferred that you keep to the original configuration of your system so that all the programs and applications in your computer will recognize all the hardware installed in it.

You can register the product from the following link:-

Mine came with 1GB of pc2-6400 ram I upgraded it to 2GB of pc2-6400 and it is working fine.

Note that I did upgrade the OS to Windows 7 Ultimate because the starter edition is a joke. Also
Windows 7 Ultimate seemed to run much faster that the starter edition.

Note that all the documentation I have seen says it uses pc2-5300 (667mhz) ram. Seems
to be an error in the documentation.

I apologize, you guys are absolutely correct! My original 1GB stick is PC2-6400 800Mhz. The 2GB sticks I tried were all PC2-5300 667Mhz. I am going to try an 800Mhz 2GB stick. Thanks.

I just tried Kingston part # KVR800D2S6/2G which is 2GB PC2-6400 800Mhz 200-Pin and it worked. I wonder why the Acer support person over in India couldn't tell me to try PC2-6400. That is poor customer support. They sent me a customer service survey, I'm going to reply with a negative review of their support.

I just bought my 532h 3 days ago. I had a 2GB 800MHz PC2-6400 left over from a previous laptop and I swapped out the original stick and put mine in. First thing I did was go into the BIOS and sure enough it listed 2048 MB. No problem. It may have something to do with the timings on whatever RAM module you use (not the clockspeed). I don't know what the timings are on mine, I haven't bothered to check. But it's working fine and is recognized in both Windows 7 and Linux.

i can also confirm that 2GB works for me... It was hard to buy it since the store doesn't take return on open ram and acers documentation says the netbook only supports 1GB. But i crossed my fingers and everything is ok.

    This is what i bought

I bought a 2Gb sodimm of PNY pc2-5300 from Newegg that has given me no problems. I have the 532h-2268 model. The little silver quick start guide says it will take 2Gb. My only problem is under linux. Windows sees the 8Gb sdhc card that came with the ram, but linux doesn't. I've tried all the tricks I can find including the pcihp_force=1 trick in grub, but no go.

    Hi ,
I have just bought a 532, and have put Fedora 12 (32bit, although it installed the PAE kernel since it is a 64bit compatible processor) on it. The ENE Technology card reader doesn't appear to have a driver for linux - of all the card readers available, they go and pick one that isn't supported by the linux kernel !!. Also, to get the best out of the graphics, you need the latest intel driver from the intel site

    Hi all,

I just installed a Kingston ValueRAM KVR800D2S5/2G and it works great. I'll just have untill my Broadcom Crystal HD chip arrives and my AO532h will be a super netbook :D

It would be a good idea to put all working memories in a list.

    Description: 2GB 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM
    Detailed Specifications: Standard 256M X 64 Non-ECC 800MHz 200-pin Unbuffered SODIMM (DDR2, 1.8V, CL5)

If everyone can contribute to the list, I'll start a "Compatible Memory" thread to cover as many models as I can. Will get King to sticky it once it's under way. Feel free to PM me with any details.

First off I would like to say thanks for everyone posting such valuable info! I just picked up my AO532H at Costo yesterday so far I like it. I am a photographer and planned on using it as a image tank that I can do some light editing with. Definatly looking to upgrade to 2gb. At the risk of sounding dumb, can someone post a link to where they got there memory from amazon or newegg? I know most places won't take back open RAM and I don't want to get beat on this.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

Acer Aspire One AO532-2730 (the little Red book...LOL)

I just installed a Kingston ValueRAM KVR800D2S6/2G and it works great.
    2BG PC2-6400 CL6 200 pin SODIMM

Pulled the battery and removed Ram cover, replaced ram with the new
one, closed cover, reinstalled battery, plugged in power supply and started netbook and
there it was 2GB of ram installed. :D

Also upgraded to Windows7 Home Premium and have no problems. :D

Ram purchased from Amazon.com web link below:
Prices seem to vary as I paid $43.99(US) with free shipping.

Just to make sure - you are saying that on the bottom of the 532H their are two doors held by screw's. The small door has a RAM stick inside. All you did was remove it and put in the new 2GB? The reason I ask is because everything I read had you tearing apart the Aspire ONE. Thanks for your help.

Just received 2GB from Crucial Technology for $47.99, removed the small door, replaced the chip, closed the door - boom - it now shows 2GB. What could be easier? :D
