Wow - the number's don't seem to make sense with twice the RAM. One thing that can't be measured - is the false sense of security I now have with 2GB of RAM. [IMG]

What was the model # of the crucial memory that you used? I just installed a Crucial 2GB stick in mine and it does not boot.

    Aspire One 532h-2588:

The store was out of the Kingston RAM that evidently works, but they had the below RAM module that they assured me would work, but it did not. Add it to the list of modules that don't work: Patriot PC2-6400 800MHz CL6 2GB module, part #PSD22G8002S. Good thing they take returns. I'll wait until they have the Kingston module in stock.

Hi,i have a question about your images. In the first image there's the tab memory with type of memory DDR3,in the second one the type is DDR2. The ram that you have installed is DDR2 or DDR3? Thanks in advance.

I just tried to upgrade my acer A0532h and with a 2 gig 800 Mhz and even after flashing the bios to the latest version, it reads only 1 GB in BIOS and in Windows 7 starter. Wondering if this because I have only the starter version. Can somebody help?
    Thanks.

From what you are saying, the only explanation that I would have is that the memory board you put in is only 1gb. Maybe its marked wrong, maybe you mixed up the board with another one; who knows. There's no easy explanation for a motherboard that is capable of 2gb to only show 1gb. If there was any incompatibility at all, as many AAO users have seen, the memory won't show up at all.

Maybe you've found the 4 leaf clover, but my money is on the memory board only being 1gb.

Hey Everyone. Here's the answer to your memory upgrade woes. Just go to us.acer.com and download the bios upgrade to the most recent version. Once you do that just swap the mermory card to the 2gb and your fine. I had the same problem everyone here has posted. Put the new memory in and just got a black screen. A techie pal of mine told me to update the bios and it worked perfectly.

im having the same problem with crucial 800 mhz ram. UPC 649528739179 DDR2-800 (PC2-6400)

    memory details:
    Crucial 2GB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module
    CT25664AC80016FH
    Module Size: 2GB
    Package: 200-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR2 PC2-6400
    Specs: DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •

i have upgraded to the latest bios 1.25 and still the problem persists.

when i do a power up it reads 2gb in the bios and in windows 7

but when i do a reboot it only reads 1gb in the bios and in windows 7

tomorrow i'll try 667 memory and see if the problem continues.

the funny thing is the windows 7 memory diagnostics runs great both when reported as 1gb and 2gb.

i suspect it's a bios bug, but i can't fix it... so i'm asking for help / advice

ok so i ran a test where i did a powe up and then i ran cpuz and it sees it as 2gb ddr3 5,5,5,15,44,2t. but if you go to spd tab you wil see ddr2 2gb pc-6400 (400 mhz) Crucial Technology, 5,5,5,15,20 for 333 mhz...

man is the bios messed up. and it runs great with windows 7. go figure

but if i then do a reboot (restart) and then look windows now only sees 1gb and if i run cpuz i still see 2gb ddr3 5,5,5,15,44,2t

so it's the same memory stick, but the bios is incorrectly reporting the amount of memory to windows and windows is too dumb to check for itself...

i guess i'll have to create a ticket with acer and ask them to fix their bios.

they are close, real close, it's just on restart they don't appear to report the correct amount of memory

what a shame its a really nice netbook

i opened ticket with acer, let's see if they'll fix it, the good thing is that the latest bios was done earlier this month, so they are will supporting it.. and it look's like they have been making changes to boot up and ram configs. if enough people open a ticket on this with them it will greatly improve our chances... so let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

have some bad news, to my surprised i got a response from acer support closing the ticket and telling me it' not their problem and redirecting me to some paid support or to the company that handles fixing their netbooks. ouch. sad support. i've responded that it's their bios that is at fault and telling them that it's an easy fix, if only they send the details of my ticket to the bios team.. let's see if they reopen the ticket or blow me off again...

i looked into problem and when i'm seeing is on cold boot the system recognizes the memory as having 2 banks 16(128Mx8) of 1gb ddr2 so-dimms and on reboot it only recoginized the memory as having a single bank 8(128Mx8) of 1gb ddr2 so-dimms.

so it's hard to see what is causing it, is it the memory or the netbook at fault or the bios. i will have to try using some other memory and see if the problem persists.

I'm seeing the same thing. On any powerup (even from hibernation), the BIOS reads the 2GB correctly, so I don't think the BIOS is to blame. Rather, I suspect that the Restart program in Windows 7 Starter is somehow "turning off" all but 1GB of RAM--probably a holdover from Microsoft's earlier plan not to allow Windows 7 Starter to run on any more than 1GB.

i did some more testing and on warm reboot i get 1gb in the bios as well. so it's not just windows giving me 1gb, it's all the way down in the bios. if you google you will see others are getting the problem. it look like a ram problem... i'm using 800 mhz ram which should be running at 667 mgz, i will try 667 mhz and see if issue goes away...

when the machine boots (cold or warm) the bios does things like query the hardware for what is installed and it reports it to the os. i guess the os could also query the hardware, but it does not... so if you run something like sandra you will see the problem as the chip showing up as having a single logical bank instead of the two logical banks that it does... it's just the hardware needs to be reset properly by the bios and it looks like the bios does not support many chips. if you go to their acers website you will see that they have been very busy updating the bios for this computer adding support to additional memory chips. unfortunately the ones that i have are still not fully working this bugged up bios... notice that they also recently fixed some other boot problems, unfortunately not this one. and their support won't forward my ticket to bios development... all they have to do is call the same code during warm boot as they do during cold boot.

    I should mention that:
    - I had already updated my BIOS to the latest 1.25 version before installing the new RAM.
    - The new RAM is Patriot DDR2 2GB PC2-6400 800MHz CL6 (PSD22G8002S).
    - The new RAM passes Microsoft's Memory Diagnostic Tool.

Franzon, are you seeing the same thing the rest of us are seeing? 2GB on a cold boot (from powerup), 1GB on a warm boot (Windows restart)? What exact RAM module are you using?

By the way, I got the same obsolete and ridiculous answer from Acer Support:
    ---
Please be informed that as per the specifications the maximum supported memory on the unit is only up to 1 GB.

I have some good news, I was able to resolve the problem by returning the Crucial CT25664AC800 memory that I was using and exchange it for Crucial CT25664AC667 memory. Basically I had purchased 800 mhz memory and I exchanged it for their 667 mhz memory.

So if you are having problems with 800 mhz memory try 667 memory...

I am having the same memory issues with my A0532h.

I had upgraded to a 2G 800 mhz module, and the BIOS reported 2G, but the OS (upgraded to Win7 Home Premium) still only recognized 1G. Based on your recommendation, I sent that module back, and ordered the Crucial CT25664AC667, but I still have the same issue. BIOS reports 2G, but Win7 Home Premium still only reports 1G. BIOS is at 1.25 (latest level). Acer support was no help, as previously reported ("...system designed for 1G only, any upgrade voids your warranty, blah blah blah...").

For those of you who successfully said you upgraded to 2G, did you verify BIOS and OS are both reporting 2G? Is there anything else I missed?

On the plus side - I did install the Broadcom BCM70015 (Single-Chip High Definition Advanced Media Processor) in the mini PCI slot. Works fine, except withouyt 2G, this will be marginally effective as an HD decoder.
