Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

    Yes the AO751h

I appolagize I will not be able to get to the tutorial until later tonight around 11pm est

Just a warning it will take alot of your time around 6 hours give or take

you will need other equipment: blank portable hard drive(along with your internal hard drive), external dvd burner drive, a thumb drive 1gig or more, and a blank cd for netbookinstaller cd. windows xp install disk(i used oem sp3, any should be fine though) this really should work for any operating system,ie win 7, linux. you can even trip boot if you want. Another thing the portable hard drive should be a sata drive because you will need to replace your internal drive into that case to install the bootloader on it(maybe not but it is what I did, you might be able to select it as an option booting from the portable hard drive, i will check)( i will explian more tonight)

but I am running dual boot on my ao751h 10.6.2 and xp,

I was up till 3:00am yesterday getting it right

I would just like to add that I love the screen on this laptop 11.6 perfect size.

Installing Dual or Trip Boot on your AO751h

    What you will need:

•AO751h (duh, but this dual boot should work for any netbook)
•Windows XP,Vista,7,Linux Disk (you can use anything)
    •Mac OSX 10.6 Disk
    •Portable Hard Drive
    •Internal Hard Drive
    •External DVD Drive
    •Netbookinstaller CD Edition http://osx.mechdrew.com/downloads/Netbo ... 8.3RC4.iso (burn to CD)
    •Thumb drive at least 1gb
•These Files to put on the thumb drive ahead of time
    dellmini10 snwfiles http://www.mediafire.com/?3mi2qooynim
    10.6.2 update http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/a ... combo.html
    Kext Utility http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... t&id=50182
(you need to sign up for the free account)

Step 1: TAKE OUT YOUR BATTERY, for the rest of this tutorial until you are finished

Step 2: Follow this guide to install OSX 10.6 on your portable Hard Drive
    http://osx.mechdrew.com/guides/nbi3.shtml

Step 3: Open your Kext Utility folder and drag the program to your desktop

Step 4: Open dellmini10 snwfiles zip, find and extract to the desktop- AppleIntelPIIATA.kext and VoodooHDA.kext

    Step 5: Remove AppleHDA.kext from /system/library/extentions (make a backup)

Step 6: Now Drag and drop AppleIntelPIIATA.kext and VoodooHDA.kext over your Kext Utility
It will take some time to install

    Step 7: Restart

Step 8: Install The apple update 10.6.2 (you will have to restart)

Now you should be able to see your internal hard drive

Step 9: Format your internal Hard Drive using Disk Utility
    2 Partitions for Dual-boot, 3 for Trip-Boot
Make sure that in the options it is MBR not Guid
For the MAC partition Format it Mac OS Extended Journaled
Make sure for the rest of the partions they are fat32 (you will need to change them later)

Step 10: Shut down OSX and get your external DVD Drive and your other OS ie. XP disk

Step 11: Install XP make sure you format the Fat32 to NTFS

Step 12: Restart from the portable hard drive

Step 13: Use Disk utility: Select your internal hard drive partition select the restore tab
Drag the current OSX (the portable hard drive)partition to the Source Area
Drag the empty partion that is Mac OS Extended Journaled (you internal hard drive) to the destination area
(This will take about 2 Hours)

Step 14: Shutdown, and take out your internal hard drive
(if you have a sata to usb converter skip step 15)

Step 15: Dissasemble your portable hard drive and stick in your internal hard drive into the case.

Step 16: Load the NetbookCD in your external Drive and load the MacOS from the hard drive.

Step 17: Once loaded Run NetbookInstaller from the CD

Step 18: Reinstall the kext AppleIntelPIIATA.kext

Step 19: Shutdown and reinsert the internal hard drive

Step 20: Startup: When you see the osx bar push shift and you should be able to see Both partitions
(If it starts into windows right away you'll need fix the active partions)
(you will need to set the mac partion as active and the windows
partion inactive, you will need a partitioning software like Paragon
    to complete this)

Please post if you like this or if you need help!!!!

    Thank you, Kenneth S.T.

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

Well... I just received a Dell 1510 card (Broadcom BCM94322HM8L) and the netbook does not recognize it.it was supposed to work OOTB but it did not on mine. Need some help here!

Any of you swapped the wifi card to this one and got it running? I will appreciate any insight here!

someone.... Thanks a lot for the steps!

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

I just got the same card, and the problem is not the card what I've read, its the fact that the WIFI is not enabled in the BIOS, and because there is no option to enable it in the BIOS apple needs to to have it enabled, I can't find any trick to this yet but if anyone else knows please post.

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

I guess that we are out of luck on getting this netbook SL friendly. I would hate to let go this WIFI card as it shows over 200 Mbps data transfer on my n-draft router which improved considerably from the OEM one.

BTW.... I was at the Apple Store this past week and saw the MacBook Air and it looked pretty eye appealing. However, the cost seems prohibitive for many as it is not easy to shaft 1800 USD on a netbook. I could potentially build two quad core OSX86 PCs with that money.

Please post any findings here! I will do the same if I ever run into any fix.

    Thanks!

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

I have not tried that as I already have it in dual boot with win 7 and not sure if that will impact my Win 7 installation.

BTW... I could care less if I have to do it all over again... but want to have the time available if something goes bad and I loose the HDD content. I was traveling on business past week and weekend.... and did not have the time.

If you try this first please post results right away. I will do the same as I was going to do this sometime this upcoming week.

    Dear Someone

No wifi and still poor graphic. I have dual now with win7 checking my graphic obsession and gma500 possibilities on w7. There is same problem - no drivers, there is some embed ones working mainly for old games. I'm waiting for some change for SL on ao751h. Definitely it's most promising one of netbooks...

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

brogie,I take it you did not find my tutorial helpful on pg3(no portable hard drive, or other computer running 10.6?)

I think the best laptop for this job is not this ao751 but the m11x, of course it cost 500 more LOL. and I'm guessing the MACBook would be the best option costing 600 more, I am with joedr, I was looking at those also, because of the stupid frustrations I have had with this netbook in the past 4 months I've ownded it.

But at long last I have put extra money into this one(500gb HD, 9cell battery, dw1510 wifi)

I just don't think the GMA500 will ever be a good graphics sultion, no matter what software upgrades they wright for it

I just want smoother video play, with something as simple as flash media

I agree with you some what brogie this is the best screen for a netbook, but the hardware matched up with it will never cut it.

I found Your tutorial helpful but I did second dos partition before and install w7 on it.There was no came back/ didn't want to erase my SL partition because of all kext modifications, than just googled about dual boot sl & w7 and found this one soft on win to make easy boot. This took 2min to download and install it and voila I got my SL partition back.
