Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

ok, Well im having some trouble getting osx onto my ao751h netbook i have the 250gb internal drive with XP loaded on it now. I am doing osx from usb keys and i can get as far as in to the setup, but it seems no matter what i do i can not get it to see my internal hard drive, now i DO NOT have access to a real mac, i have tried the changing of the APPLEINTELPIIXATA.kext but it has changed nothing for me the post says AppleIntelPIIATA.kext without the X in the name but i could not find that file, does it exist or is it a typo? I Have tried numerous things, also the only place that file exists is in the file under general and Dell mini 9, under 10.5 and 10.6 extensions...correct?

As you can see ive tried about everything i can think of if anyone could help id appreciate it, all i need is to get the installation so see me Hard drive
i do have a usb dvd burner and have tried using the netbook CD iso and it wouldnt get me past the pinheel at the osx startup.

    Thank You,
    Cameron

    Did You remove battery?
With kext it's typo and You are correct needs to be in 10.6 extensions.
Do You have two partitions? Can You make it?
cd will not work. didn't work for me.

Agree with brogie! Try to do the install without the battery.

Yes I have tried with no battery and I have acronis disk director which I used to make a second primary partition tried with no file system formatted on patition and also with fat 32 formatted on partition I can get neetbook to see the partition when it boot but once I enter the setup it never shows. I have tried using disk utility in setup but nothing all I get as far as a hard drive to choose is the USB key with netbook image on it

Is there something I can do in terminal I've updated my bios to most current version and still no change Im running out if ideas.

    Buy a ide/sata to usb converter $20 @ newegg.com, saves a lot of headache.

Use this to hook up a DVD drive, that is if you have a DVD drive lying around or in a computer.

Just to say I never got the usb netbookinstaller to work. CD install way easier.

i have tried the cd method with my usb dvd drive and got the newer netbook cd and it gets me into the installer same as the usb key but still wont see internal HD

is there something special i need to do so osx will see my drive, it has xp on it now but i have a second partition set as primary that i have tried with no file system and formatted with fat32 still nothing i tried older versions of netbook cd also. like i said i get the netbook bootloader to see both my win and empty partition but nothing once i enter osx installer

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

I know what the problem is, you are trying to install 10.6 on MBR (master boot record) witch is the "partion table" for XP,

(you will need the partion of empty space in fat32 in order for disk utility to recognize it without deleting your XP)

10.6 uses the new GUID, MBR is not allowed by apple's new OS,

there is a way around it, and you won't have to loose your windows partition,

you will need a portable hard drive. and refer to my guide on page three of this fourm

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

what if i say screw the xp installation and completely reformat the hard drive can i change it to guid then later on reinstall windows?

i dont have a portable hard drive and if i can get by without buying one is a plus

also would this stop osx from even seeing my drive or just installing to it because osx doesnt even see it

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

1st It's a pain to install XP on GUID, but I here it it possible, just do some internet research.

2nd if you find one for free let me know, though they're not that expensive

3rd you should still be able to see the drive in disk utility(as long as it's FAT32) but not in the hard drive installer options

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

Ok well I was thinking that the guid/mbr was my problem but now your saying that disk utility would see my drive formatted in fat32/mbr and that's not the case disk utility was NOT seeing my drive so should I continue switching to guid or do I have a different problem?

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

Read the first page of this forum, "AppleIntelPIIATA.kext; replace this kext in the netbookbootmaker.app (just look inside the pkg to find where to put),"
(look on page three, in my tutorial there is a link to this file, it's found inside of dellmini10 snwfiles.zip)

This is required to see the hard drive

I never installed it this way, I pulled the hard drive out and installed it through the USB
(with the sata/ide to usb converter, very handy to have not just this application)

and installed the Kext (right into my freshly installed mac osx with Kext utility) after I was done.

    Then reinserted the hard drive.

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

i understand all that what im saying is even after replacing the kext file MY hard drive is still not seen

and i DO NOT have a usb hard drive so installing EXTERNALLY is not an option.

im currently in the process of moving to a guid partition table to see if that changes anything

any other thoughts or ideas are much appreciated

That sucks, but I bet the view is worth it

Are you not able to get things shipped either?

How are you accessing the files, do you have a MAC available?

But I am going to bed now so I can't reply till later.

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

I am editing the nbi_83f.img with trans mac once it's imaged on to my USB stick, by editing I'm looking inside the netbook installer 0.8.3.app.zip

navigating to resources/machines/general/10.6 extensions then replacing the appleintel file with the Dell 10 file
    am I doing something wrong

Anyways new question, currently my 32bit xp is installed over ntfs now I'm going to reinstall it over fat32 and that should be all I need to do to get disk utility to see it correct?
So if I do that and disk utility is still not seeing my hard drive then I must still have a kext issue correct?
And my drive still currently being mbr and not guid (gpt) would not stop disk utility from seeing it only from installing to it?

What I need to do is narrow my problem to one issue and I believe formatting to fat32 will leave no question about whether osx should see my drive

Please correct me if I'm wrong

Re: AAO 751 Mac Os X Snow Leopard via NetbookInstaller USB

Alternative idea if the above isn't going to work

I was able to find a DL DVD so if I burn the mac osx to that I will have my 8gb USB stick free, can I use that to put osx on and follow your tutorial on page 3 or do I need more than 8gb?

You will need a bigger thumb drive, I think it takes 11gb with all the options off.

I was wondering iof you were using trans mac( I was going to suggest that)

I am going to try something don't delete contents of your stick
