The machine is an AOA 110-1588. Something happened a while back with Windows xp. I couldn't find the disks to fix or restore so I removed XP and installed and messed with Easy Peasy for a while. Didn't really care for it all that much and the AOA sat idle. Well, I discoved the necessary disks recently and decided to restore 110 to Windows XP. Go through the process with the disks. When it comes time to start the computer I get error: unknown filesyste. grub rescue> I get the drift that the grub thing has to do with the Easy Peasy but I thought the recovery disks (Recovery Disk + System Disk) would take care of it.

So, now what do I do?

Thanks for the reply. I've been messing around for most of the day and I think I'm close, but I'm not there yet. I just can't seem to get past the grub rescue at the boot. I've got fdisk on a bootable usb but just can't seem to get the jist of how fdisk works. It looks like I have 1 partition. My guess is the Linux files are at the beginning and are being picked up first at boot up. I also have Windows xp on a bootable usb and I guess if push came to shove I could boot from that all the time. But I'd rather not go that route.

I'm uneasy about deleting the Primary DOS partition mainly because I'm not sure what will come next - like setting up a new partition. I'm far from an expert on this stuff. I know only enough about be really dangerous. That's what got me in this mess in the first place.

Maybe I'm all wet but it just seems if I could get rid of the grub thing I'd be up and running.

Any encouragement or further help would really be appreciative

“SUPER FDISK” is one of the safest products on the market. Load SUPER FDISK goto to the partition heading, choose DELETE, then next step choose CREATE, then final step FORMAT. Fat 32 format is the correct format for windows xp. Your done! Then load your XP DISKS OR USB as normal. You can always load linux again if needed after doing the above. As the song says: don’t worry be Happy.

This is really embarrassing, Something Back. I can't seem to get Super fdisk to download so that I can load it. I've done this kind of thing dozens of times but for some reason it's not working. I've tried all afternoon and now into early evening to no avial. I've tried downloading it to the computer and to a usb drive and then unziping it. It unzips but there's no program anywhere. A file is created with stuff in it. There's even a choice, I think, to make bootable disks, but that asks for a drive A which I don't have and I can't seem to change the drive designation.

Kind of the good news is that I've run across some screen shots which has bolstered my confidence in workikng with Super Fdisk but I just can't get to the darn program. At one point in trying to set it up I got something that said something like - issues starting up, launch again. Got that a couple of times and then started trying other things.

I have a bootable usb drive with dos and another bootable usb with windows that I'm using to make the AOA 110 work but, of course, I have to use the F12 option at boot to make either of them work. If I could only get rid of these pescky Linux files in the mbrI think I could get windows xp loaded.

You've helped a lot already but if you have any further suggestions I would really appreciate it.

What a saga this is turning out to be.

Got the superfdisk and burned a disk like it said. Ran the program and got "Mouse driver did not install." Really didn't remember/know how to do that. Hit ok. Takes me to a screen that says, "Error: No right partition table on harddisks." Hit enter and it takes me to a screen that tells me to get Partition Table Dr to rebuild the table. Of course Partition Dr has been replaced. Got the replacement, "Partition Recover by EASEUS, load it up and run through it and get no where. I'm stuck now. Don't know what to do. GRRRRRRR

Wow, what an adventure. Here's where I stand. After hours of messing around I finlly got Windows xp installed via a thing called wintoflash. A couple of files weren't installed but the program seems to be working, mostly. The serial number, or whatever it's called for Windows, I obrained by flipping the netbook over and coping the number on the sticker. I have to add divice drivers which I've downloaded from the Acer site. But here's what I'm wandering....

I have a several disks which I've acquied from a few 150's and 110's. One disk is a Recovery Disk, another is a System disk, and the other is an Acer Windows XP Home Edition SP3. That last one, I believe is a DVD. I tried using it to address the issue outlined in the posts above but it just didn't work. The other two didn't work either in trying to solve the initial problem. Now that Windows is working would the Recovery and Systems disks restore the machine to Acer factory settings? I could try and find out but if it didn't work I'd I have to start all over and I'm not sure I remember all I did to get where I am. I guess I could live with it the way it is but, ideally, I'd like to get it back to the Acer factory settings.

If someone who knows about these disks could chime in I'd be most grateful

Ok, so I bit the bullet and tried the restore...and it worked! The little AOA 110 is up and running on Windows xp, but it's running really, really slow. I also get a warning that the disk space is running low. I think the thing is one of those SSD things on which I messed up the partitions. So, my next quest is to try to figure out why this apparently 8 gig is filled up after a restore. Again, any ideas would be helpful.
