AOD250 LCD upgrades?

I've got an AOD250-1026 with the 1024x600 LCD, and I'm interested in eventually upgrading the LCD to something better.

The obvious answer would be the 1280x720 LCD used in some versions of the AOD250 outside of the US... and I do have some questions on that, that are relevant to any display, but I probably won't go that route.

Does the machine get the EDID directly from the LCD, or from the BIOS and using resistors in the LCD cable to detect the LCD (some ThinkPads do that, and my experience with upgrading laptop displays is in ThinkPads)? The EDID stored in the registry suggests that it's pulling from the panel directly, though.

Does the D250 have different lid assemblies and/or bezels for 1280x720? I would guess that it would, because the aspect ratio is slightly different (16:9 instead of 16:9.375,) but photos I've seen of the 1280x720 models indicate otherwise.

Of course, I wouldn't put a 1280x720 LCD in, unless it uses resistors to get the EDID - 1366x768 is even better, and that's available in 10.1".

Well, that means that electrically, the mod's possible, most likely - no reason they'd go back to resistors, as the LCDs nowadays come with the EEPROMs, and cables with resistors are more expensive than cables without resistors. (IBM used resistors back in the day because LCDs didn't always have the EEPROM for the EDID.)

So, that just leaves mechanical compatibility. (And maybe the pinout, I need to grab datasheets for the panel in this machine and the LG 1366x768 panel.)

Still wondering about mechanical compatibility of this mod.

Can someone with a 720p D250 measure how large their bezel is? On the outside of the bezel, only go to the flat edge, not the side of the lid. On the inside, go to the edge - right up to the LCD.

These are the measurements for a D250 with the 1024x600 LCD:

    Left: 14.5 mm
    Right: 14.5 mm
    Top: 20.0 mm
    Bottom: 12.5 mm

These aren't exact measurements, but they should be close enough to compare.

It looks like the panel I'll need to use is the LG LP101WH1, BTW.

Oh, and for internal compatibility, the markings on the left LCD frame assembly:
    Code:
    (stamped) SZS-L KAV60 AM084000210 (printed) 090605 Z29
    Right frame:
    Code:
    (printed) 090328 Z4 (stamped) KAV60 AM084000110 SZS-R
    Bezel labels:
    Code:
    DZ FA084000P00-2 14#
    REV:0A 09/04/13 A
    Code:
    (barcode)
    AP084000E10 SZDZ 0A 094E N 08
    Bezel molding:
    Code:
    FA084000R00
    KAV60_LCD_BEZEL_WHITE
    FA084000P00
    KAV60_LCD_BEZEL_BLACK
This seems to indicate only one bezel, but can someone verify on a 720p model, considering many of the parts in my machine are so old? (And, my machine was made in June of 2009, despite only being purchased 8 days ago. No wonder Wal-Mart was blowing them out.) You only have to remove each corner, and then the four screws will be exposed.

    Bump

Can we use LCD from other manufacturers? Like I think the HP Mini 110 has a higher resolution LCD upgrade option
