I recently bought an APC UPB50 external battery from Circuit City... http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productD ... keycode=58

This model is relatively small, about as wide as the AA1 and 2.5" deep. It weighs about a pound. I've found that under constant use it provides roughly 3 hours of power, which added to the AA1's 2.5 hours of battery life yields over 5 hours of uptime. The unit comes with a collection of adapters for various laptops...use the K set for the AA1.

I'm pretty happy with the device. I travel fairly frequenty and the extra hours of uptime are great when I'm sitting in an airline seat that has no power plug.

thanks for the info. i am looking for the 6 cell battery but this might be an option.

LOL did you see the first review on that Circuit City page. "Does not fit Dell Inspiron 1100 or 5100. No mention of this is description."

What makes me crazy is that more and more, the packaging doesn't give enough information. This unit, for example, is an external power supply, and my AA1 wasn't listed in the 'compatible devices' that take up most of the printed area on the package. What I wanted to know was: What's the current and voltage output? Not a peep on the box.

I thought this was a great idea and bought the only 50w APC battery in any of the CC stores in N-NJ and NYC.

However, I was quite disappointed when I took it out of the packaging and discovered that either they packed the wrong cable at the factory or the wrong tip kit. Why? The genders were all wrong and the tips wouldn't mate to the cable.

The 70 watt version is everywhere but seems a bit overkill for the AA1.

    Oh, well...

I've bought the APC UPB70 Universal Battery mainly because it has USB output as well. I've tested with the one (WLAN connected, sitting IDLE most of the time though), I got over 6 hours of battery time which is adding the 2 hrs of the internal battery would make it work over 8 hours (complete working day :) ).

This battery is thin, but the other 2 dimensions are bigger than the one's.
