When I got my AOA in Oct 08 I absolutely loved it. Now 15 months on I love it even more!

Intel's Atom processor has not progressed in terms of clock speed. Even though newer ones are a little more energy efficient - and future ones may have a larger on board cache. So with it's 1.6 GHz the One remains as powerful as any new netbook model. Adding an extra gig of RAM and a better SSD to mine is all I've needed to do to keep it's performance cutting edge.

The ready availability of after market peripherals for Acer is a great too. I bought a brand new 9 cell battery for just £18. My friend who has a Mini 10 can only get a 6 cell upgrade from Dell themselves - at a cost of more than £80! He can't add any extra memory to his Mini 10 either.

The One has some great design features that no other netbooks have - the storage expansion slot and the trackpad with the side-mounted buttons. Its really useful being able to mount 2 SDs simultaneously and the side buttons on the trackpad makes the wrist rest smaller and it easier to type. I hate how far set back the keyboard is on laptops.

The One is also only 8.9 inches which is the perfect dimension for a netbook. Today OEMs only seem to be making netbooks bigger, heavier and more like laptops - which I don't see the point of. The build quality of the One is outstanding. The moulding and fit of the pieces is so much better than a Dell and the overall design still looks really cool.

I use mine everyday and it's always been 100% reliable. It's really small and light and the fan is almost completely silent. The screen might be lower res than more modern netbooks but Windows 7 still looks very good on it. The only bad thing about the One is that the keyboard isn't great. Also it runs on the road gaming favs like Q3, UT2003, RTCW and Diablo 2 perfecty.

The One is STILL The One baby!

i cant imagine a better deal for what i paid (330 american). I got 2 gigs of ram and a 250gig hd stock. only thing i wish was that it came with a 6 cell instead of a 3 cell but w/e. with the money i saved i snatched up a 9 cell replacement off ebay. all i use my 751h for is watching movies, typing, and surfing the web. after the free upgrade to windows 7 its plenty fast for all of that. sure i have to run it on high performance mode to watch stuff from hulu and other hi res sources but i t a netbook for gods sake. of course its gonna be a bit underpowered compared to a full laptop or desktop. it all depends on what you plan on doing with it.

Completely agree. Although the 1st of its kind I think it is still the best looking netbook on the market. My dad-in-law got the latest EEE PC from Santa and it is stunningly good-looking, but still not as original as the AA1.

I also agree with your point about making netbook bigger being pointless.

My 3-cell battery is nearly dead. Although I have a 6-cell one, I feel more comfortable with having 2 batteries. Can you tell us where you got a battery for such a low price?..

Oops, sorry got it very slightly wrong - I bought from this seller on Ebay and it's their 6-cell battery that was £18:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BATTERY-4-ACE...p_Batteries?hash=item439c29afd3#ht_3016wt_972

The 9-cell I bought from them was £25:

Still a great deal I think!

Linpus was super fast for me when I was still using the stock 8GB SSD. Boot times and shutdown were 15 secs without fail.

The only thing I've changed is to add an extra GB of RAM and a better SSD. Windows 7 and every application I've installed runs like a dream.

    Not happy.

I purchased my Linpus A150 primarily for using whilst travelling.
So I need reliable wifi, wherever there is an available signal. That means if the other laptops around me hook up, I expect the Acer to do so too.

Original configuration kept letting me down.
Bios update + network manager update were better, but not enough.
Change to 5300 network card + Ubuntu Netbook remix + WICD worked fine for 2 weeks, then it stopped working anywhere, including with a LAN cable.
Changed to Fedora 12. Still evaluating wifi performance, although this OS is slow to boot.

I am quite happy with my little Aspire One. I sold my iBook G4 I bought off of Kijiji in the summer for $300. Right after I sold my iBook, I headed right over to Staples and bought my machine without hesitation  Lovin it since I got it

Very happy with it. I bought an AA1-ZG5 almost exactly a year ago to use when travelling. Quickly got annoyed at Linpus, so I loaded my custom Slackware version on it. Works perfectly. I now use the AA1 every day to read email and newsgroups, with a bit of web-surfing thrown in.

I've had my AAO for 15 months now. It has been with me every day, and was my primary work machine for about 6 months. Even after getting another computer for day to day stuff, it still got used every day, just not as hard core.

Now that I am back home, and where I have a regular pc to work with every day, the AAO has gotten a bit less attention, but it sure is handy to walk upstairs to get a snack while still listening to last.fm or reading the news.

I haven't had the wireless issues some have... to the contrary, mine's been able to catch signal and hookup where others can't (lucky I guess).

My only complaint was the low volume of the speakers... I have remedied that, now that it's out of warranty. Works great.

I don't game on it a whole bunch, but it will play older games in a pinch. I still play Diablo2 on it when I am on the road... :)

And Unreal Tournament GOTY. I love my Gog.com... cool stuff there.

I watch movies that I convert over on it. Never a complaint there... I may upgrade the hard drive some day (160 gb is getting a bit small with all the "junk" I have loaded...)

I use it as my GPS unit when out of town, and it has worked well for that. Which reminds me I still want to make a bracket to mount it hanging from my center console of my car (the bus has a great shelf for it in the drivers front corner of the dash board)

To those of you who are so upset that it is "slow", I do have a question: What are you judging this on? It is ONLY a 1.66ghz machine, and ONLY 32 bit with 2 paths... it is NOT a quad core 3.9ghz machine you are dealing with here... Start and Stop times? At 45secs from cold start and about 30 seconds shut down (with a lot of background tasks) it is still 3 times faster than my 500mhz Toughbook it replaced.

IT IS NOT a $1500 game machine... but then, you didn't pay $1500 for it, did you?

It was definitely worth the $350 I paid for it over a year ago.

I got my Acer Aspire One 8gig SSD just about a year ago and I couldn't be happier!! I wanted a Linux machine to surf and chat with and that's what I got. Since getting it I've tried a lot of different Linux OS's on it. I'm using Moblin 2.1 right now and that seems to be by far the best for this machine.

How can you not be happy... look what your getting for only $299.00 at Costco!
I'm may be showing my age here, but I remember buying a 650mg full height 5/14" Maxtor HDD that cost $1800.00 and crashed shortly
after its 1 year warranty expiry date. Then there was the $800.00 Intel math co processor for my 286, etc.... etc....

    cheers!

I'm totally happy with this. I bought a secondhand ZG5 with a busted SSD (which I would have tossed anyway) and some case scratches for quite cheap. I installed a ZIF HDD, put Linux on it, and slapped a sticker on the case and now I have the most hackable portable computer I've ever owned. It's brilliant! I'll be slowly upgrading the battery, RAM, etc. as I get the chance.

There is one thing I could do without; this was originally the Windows version of the netbook, so I've got that ugly Windows logo key. I need to find a tiny sticker or something for that.

LOL, I did not even receive it and I am already happy with it haha - well just because after all the research and opinions I found my 1410 2285 dual core to one of the best netbooks for the price.
