    Hi Guys,...

I am very curious about installing wine on the aspire one. Because i need to run Meta Trader 4 on the netbook, and the only way to make it happen is to load it trough wine. Is it doable? Can i add a shortcut or launcher on the desktop?

    Thank U.

Which version of wine did you install? Did you install it via "yum" or did you do it through the package manager?

I have successfully installed wine on linpus. But I need to add winetools to run certain app on it. Not the one that available on repo manager, but this kind of winetools:

    http://www.von-thadden.de/Joachim/WineTools/

Ive open the rpm file and install it on the One. But when I type wt in the terminal, it shows:

    detecting Wine version... done.
    Drive C: is /home/user/.wine/drive_c
    Wine 0
    wine is executed as wine
    Parameters are --noexit
    Browser is /usr/bin/firefox.
    WINEVER is "0"

What should I do to fix that?

    Thank U very much.

Can someone post a guide to installing wine please ?

Where do I get it ?

How do I run it ? I might have installed in already by a wine core package, but don't know how to run it ?

Just need a guide to installing it.

    Go to the terminal. Enter:

    Code:
    sudo yum install wine
Then when you have an .exe file in the file manager, right click on it, select "Open with..." -> Open With other Applications. Open the "Custom command" pane at the bottom, enter wine in the field, and press "Open". You should now be able to run .exe files from the file manager.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, but I'm afraid some of us are REALLY newbies about Linux, but would like to learn. What is the 'terminal" and how do you get to it? Please help us. Thanks again.

    Activate the advanced menu:

    viewtopic.php?p=158

The terminal is the second option.

I done the install in terminal etc, but where in the file manager should the .exe be ? I couldnt find it in downloads or anywhere there. I then done a search for wine files and found executables, and done the command run part, but nothing started... Dont know if its the right thing I was trying to open.

    Help :?

    Thx

I guess I wasn't entierly clear here - the ".exe" file would be the Windows program you want to run... Like setup.exe or install.exe. Without having first put a Windows program on your One, there is little for Wine to do, now isn't there. ;)

I was able to run Warcraft III Frozen throne on Aspire One using Wine from an external hard disk. The only problem is the speed as it is very slow. it's like playing on a pentium 3 pc. :) i don't intend to play Warcraft but I'm happy that wine can handle such program. :)

If you want to play warcraft at full speed, get XP. :) i tested it there and it worked with no speed problems(you have to set the visuals to low of course) but running XP at full speed is a very different story(if you are using the 8GB model like me).
