To begin with, I need to vent...

With my old Dell laptop I could punch in my serial number and find out exactly which drivers belong to my laptop. With Acer I just can't find that option. Instead I get a load of driver choices and I don't know which to choose from. I have tried Device Manager and Belarc Advisor and I don't know which drivers to download! How ridiculous is this, that you can't find out exactly what drivers are required for your particular hardware on the Acer website?

First I went into "Add Hardware" and I searched the folders full of drivers - that I downloaded - to see which driver was the correct driver for my Wireless Lan and this method worked. But I can't follow this same procedure through with the 3G driver. I have two choices: Huawei and Ericsson.

I am dual-booting XP and Ubuntu. I wiped the Windows 7 Spyware off as quickly as possible. XP isn't loads better but until WINE progresses further I have no choice.

My next frustration is that I can't find any tutorials on Google about how to set up 3G in XP. I am scratching my head here as to why I can't find a simple tutorial on this topic. If I knew how to set it up I would probably find out which driver is required in the process. Can anyone help? Is there a way to identify which 3G driver is necessary; Huawei or Ericsson?

I don't just want to download and install every driver I see. I want to keep XP running smoothly for as long as possible by not installing unnecessary software.

    Thanks!
