A couple of weeks ago I bought an Acer Aspire One 531h-0Bk netbook and an LG GP08NU20 external USB DVDRW.

My netbook doesn't recognise the DVDRW. I connected the DVDRW in another netbook (not Acer) and the netbook recognised the DVDRW within seconds in Windows XP Home. And didn't even require drivers.

It's not an OS issue (my netbook comes with Edubuntu and Windows XP Home), because my netbook doesn't see the DVDRW in the boot and BIOS menus, while it does see a USB flash stick.

I'm in a rural area right now and accesing another PC with a DVDROM/RW is difficult (but not impossible). I have access to a moderately fast Internet connection.

Is there anything I can try to solve the problem?
