I apologise if this one has been posted before, if it has, I cannot find it.

The noise from the internal fan is driving me insane. I purchased an as new unit from acer direct, it arrived today and is running linux. I have seen the same "fix" on various websites, evidently it changes settings so the fan is not constantly on but installing is beyond me as I am new to Linux. also most threads seemingly go back to 2008.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in anticipation.

if you search for acerfand you should find some help...

I just sorted my noisy fan with this....

    It involves (from memory)

copying 2 files of code & saving them in /usr/local/bin....

making one of the files executable...

then adding the line /usr/local/bin/acerfand to the file rc.local

    It's pretty straight forward....

You will have to be working as 'root' of course

It may be a bit different depending on which flavour of linux you are running

I'm running macpup foxy 3 which is FANtastic..... no pun etc.

    good luck
