Aspire One + wired broadband

    I am trying to establish a WIRED internet connection using an Acer Aspire One Linux netbook
    via my Virgin Media Broadband cable modem i.e. via USB or ethernet cable. I've

    1. Plugged ethernet cable into back of cable modem and into netbook
    2. Configured and established a connection in network manager app using IP address, default gateway
    primary/secondary DNS lookup servers.

    When I open Firefox and enter a URL, nothing happens.

    Has anyone else experienced this problem with Virgin Media Broadband configurations?

    In my case, I have a desktop and an aspire one with Roadrunner, I have to reset the modem when switching computers.
