My aspire one will start to boot up, but quits (turns off) after 30 secs. Happens on battery power or without battery. I can go into setup screen or boot screen with no problem, but wherever it is at at the 30 sec mark, it dies. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Check that the fan is running.

Boot off of a usb device and if it stays running it maybe something in your operating system.

Tried booting off usb. No luck. I really don't think it is boot issue. I can go into setup or the boot menu and at the 30 sec mark it just dies.

It's only up for 30 secs. It sounds like it normally does when running. The fans aren't obviously running. Will they run before a boot is complete?

Yes. The fan is working up to the time the computer shuts off.

There is a trick which was posted here about putting the netbook in a freeze bag and placing it in the freezer. The idea is to reset a faulty temperature sensor.

It has been reported to work for most people, but it is not 100%. Sometimes the problem returns.

The temperature reporting component is part of the motherboard, so if the freezer trick works but the problem returns, then you will need a motherboard.

I had the same problem 3-4 times.
First time Acer warranty changed me M/B
Second time after 2 months from repairing same thing happened.

Found the solution in this forum
    Listen what to do.

    Not freezers and bullshits...

Just hit it hard with your hand near the fan area.
    Dont pity it
    Just slam it..

Happens the fan to get stuck during the times of transportation and the built in safety triggers.

Eventually still happens to me and i think too many ppl have this issue and reflash their bios to recover, but during flash it shut's down and you have a bricked AOA
    Hope this helped.

    This is a great advice:
I came home from a journey; my AAO shut down after some seconds; I hit it and now it works

Great Thank you for this simple advice

    PanBan you are my hero!
A mate has a ZG5 that kept shutting down after 30 secs. Of course it was 10 days out of warranty.

A quick 'pat on the boko' seems to have got it sorted.

    Thanks

Sounds to me like the root cause of this problem is one of 2 things:

    * Either the CPU is suffering the same "temporary death" as the XBox 360 did with the constant temperature changes de-soldering the processor from the motherboard
    or
    * The thermal paste on the CPU is not working as it should. If this problem were to occur with my netbook, or any machine for that matter, I'd much rather attempt to clean the CPU lay some decent thermal compound, than bash the sh*t outta my laptop and risk more severe damage.
