Ok my girl friend has a ZG5 and it has Linux Lite on it, now I am fine with Linux (being a physicist, I use it often enough) but she hates it and wants Windows XP on it. I have taken this thing apart and put it back together and browsed the web etc. and I have failed to locate a method of getting a new OS onto the annoying device. Help needed.

Easy, but I have a 16gbSSD version and it seems to be a bit sticky and slow with XP.

Im using Ubuntu remix 10.4 and this flies, finds the wifi easily and hibernates when the lid is closed down.

Anyway to install any OS including XP if you dont have a USB CD or DVD dive you need a USB stick. I used a 2GB SD card and a card reader.

Download nlite, run and copy XP OS from your XP disk to a folder on a windows XP machine say NLIteOS(I have had issues trying this on a windows 7 machine). You can also add the acer windows drivers and add service packs via nlite (including adding the serial key and other user presets) so it can completely install windows without the stupid prompts. It takes a bit but once done all the files will be in one place

Install usb_multiboot10 (http://wiki.eeeuser.com/windowsxpusb) insert the USB stick and do as the instructions say, select the NliteOS as the source, select the USB stick as the destination, it has format section so it can format as a bootable device, then run.

Once finished transfer the usb stick to the one and boot pressing F12 selecting the USB and let it do its thing. Job done

May be worh using flash drive when XP is installed ect.

For Linux use Pendrivelinux for USB setup and the site has links to the popular linux OS.
