    Hello,
I'm really sorry if these have already been asked but I did search and found nothing. So i've been eyeing up an AspireOne against a Dell Mini 9/10v and finally decided to go for the Acer, but one last thing before I decided was to go and have a listen if the fan noise was really as bad as some made out. So, I popped into Comet (Im a UK Member :p ) and they had a AOA-150BW set up and ready. Now i've been eyeing up the AOA-150BW and the Acer A150-AW.

The AOA-150BW as noted obviously comes with Windows XP, 160GB Hard Drive etc, and according to the Spec sheet 1GB of RAM (including the little description underneath the product in Comet), however when I checked the BIOS (hehe, nobody was around) it said there was 1.5GB of RAM, which according to Windows was 1.48GB of RAM. I asked the guy in the store, if this was the case for all of them. Could anybody shed any light on this for me?

It may sway my decision as currently the benefits of the BW don't necessarily match the £70 extra, however having seen the awkwardness of installing new RAM, it might just sway me :p

    Thanks,
    Joe

It would appear that they are installing the extra memory as standard.

Acer or Comet? Do you believe that if I purchased the A150-AW which obviously comes with Linpus Linux, 120GB hard drive, it would also come with a 1.5GB RAM Upgrade? Or am I expecting a bit much there. The A150-AW is off eBay by the way, from a company called expansysuk

Maybe the AAO on display was upgraded to 1.5 but the one in the box is 1.0

Bait and switch. You'll get it home and say; "But the display model was so quick... Oh, where is my extra memory".

I doubt you will find many units upgraded to 1.5 unless Acer is shipping them that way and they just have not noted the change on the box. At Acer's level the extra .5 of memory is not costing them much, maybe an extra $5.00

I see. It was definitely like that out of the box. I actually saw them open it and set it up. They literally took it out the box, plugged it in and booted it into Windows and left me there to have a look and said that this was going to be their display model and that they had 8 in the stock room. Could this particular shipment have 1.5GB of RAM? If so, I may go for it. If not, i'll just take the 120GB version and upgrade the RAM myself following the instructions although its a pain in the arse :p

Just got off the phone from Acer pre-sale support, they say that it should not have 1.5GB of RAM and that either the device has been upgraded or fitted with the wrong RAM Module. They also said don't count on the others in that particular batch also having the wrong RAM module and it would be a lottery as to whether they have it or not. A little annoying I guess. I would probably pay the extra 70 quid for 40GB + 512MB more of RAM and for a licensed version of Windows (although I have plenty I can use). So now i've got to decide what i'm going to do :D
