    Re: UPDATE: FIXED!

Glad to hear as well. I sent mine out for repair to Acer Canada. I was wondering do they provide a part number or any more details on the power board? Just in case mine comes back still defective.

No part number provided, in fact the report is quite vague, especially the first two times you send it in.

I've been reading many other places and this is a very common issue with these PCs. I bought mine for use while traveling via motorcycle. I purchased it on the road in CA and noticed the battery wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few days unless I remove it. That's what I was doing and now I've gotten very frustrated with it and ready to send it in. The other problem I have and it may be related to removing the battery after shut down but the clock will not stay set. Each time it's turned on, it can range anywhere from 1985 to 2001 which in turns makes all the site certificates invalid. A great idea for a laptop but a major pain when they don't get all the bugs worked out.

Tantalus - I'm wondering where you sent it in Texas since that's where I live. I'd like to avoid jumping through all the hoops if at all possible and go directly to who can help me. Thanks!

    Re: UPDATE: FIXED!

I just got mine back from Acer. They replaced the power board as well. The part# is 55.S6802.001 for those who have this problem. This fixed it.

    Javanino,

    The address is..

    Acer Repair Center
    10986 N.W. H.K. Dodgen Loop
    Temple, TX 76504

I suggest you go there with your motorcycle buddies, wearing your colors, and start busting up the place if they don't fix your Acer while you wait. Just camp right out on the lawn, burn a few cars, rape and pillage at will.
Actually I can save you some time by advising not to bother with Acer on line support as I did for eight sessions. They are complete idiots. All they do is keep giving you things to try to get you off line. I finally found the "fix my Acer" page where I got authorization to send it in.
    http://secure2.tx.acer.com/FixMyAcer3/FixMyAcer.aspx
From my success and also radarshop's it seem they finally have a fix for this. Good Luck.

Hi everyone, if you're still here...

Has anyone worked out this problem?
I'm having the same issue with my ZG5. I can charge the battery completely and if i leave it powered off overnight the the battery is completely drained by the morning. If i take it out then it holds it's charge but drains by about 1 or 2%.

I rang acer support and they said that its the battery that is at fault and it needs replacing however, I don't see how that can be the case when it holds its charge outside the laptop. Surely something in the laptop is draining it whilst it is powered off.

I saw on another forum about another laptop with the same issue that when it is powered off the battery voltage is still being monitored but i can't see how that can use up the whole battery.

I have also tried holding the power buttom down whilst the battery is out etc as mentioned above but this hasn't helped at all.

I have a 3 cell battery and the laptop is only 4 months old, this problem has come on rather suddenly. Also, i took it to pieces and gave it a good clean to make sure nothing is shorting and draining the battery.

I hope somebody has worked out what the problem is.

    Thanks

    Dina,

This problem has been identified exactly to what you are having (see posts earlier in this thread). You will have to send it in, should still be in warranty. Don't bother calling tech support or using the on line help, they are useless and will not acknowledge the problem. I can tell you this, a new battery or a new charger will not fix the problem. They need to change the power board inside. You need to find "fix my Acer" on the Acer web site, which has an automated return authorization and you do not have to argue with anyone. If you are in the US you can click this link http://secure2.tx.acer.com/FixMyAcer3/FixMyAcer.aspx and start there. Otherwise find "fix my Acer" on your country's Acer web site.

Sorry for the delayed response but I never got notified that there was a response to my message. Maybe Acer servers are handling this forum as well :D I went ahead an emailed support and of course they sent me the standard form response of do this and do that. I'll play the game for a few days but eventually I'll go to the link you sent FixMyPieceOfShitAcer.com I didn't expect much for 300 bucks but this shouldn't be happening. Fortunately Temple is just a couple hours away by Ducati so I'm sure I can get it handled. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how it goes.

FWIW, I have a new Acer Aspire 1410 with the su2300 dual core processor.
I lose 5% power per day with the laptop OFF.
Lastest BIOS, wake on LAN turn off, and still 5% loss per day.

Glad I found this thread. I would have just kept going through tech support instead of RMA'ing the thing.

Thanks. My 1410 doesn't have a separate board from what I can see from photos of its disassembly. Guess I'll be RMA'ing it.

Well, these acer folks are sure hard headed. I sent mine to Temple and guess what, they sent it back with a new battery and as predicted, It still drains as quick as it did before. I did the math and it drains .72% per hour. In other words in 4 days (96 hrs) it drained 70% from a full charge. I'll send it back again. Actually I'll keep sending it back as long it takes. What a pain!

Well, i gotta say it, i go out and leave my 751h in its case and overnight it will loose about 5%, but come on, its only 5%! Thats about what, 10 mins on a 3 cell battery correct me if i am wrong

Also, my battery wear level is pretty bad, when i first got my 751h i didn't let it charge up all thw way, so i list about an hour of battery, on the box it says i get 4 hours max, but now im lucky to get 2-2.5 hours, i have had it since christmas, anyone think i need a new battery?

I'm looking forward to my charmed 3rd time. I received my netbook back a 2nd time and they stated they replaced the power board as well as the battery (the first time). They even included a new ac/adapter. However, it still is discharging nearly 1% per hour when turned completely off. I'm going to do a few reset things before I send it back a 3rd time. Sure is frustrating.

    Javanino,

At this point between trips 2-3 I was on the phone with the service dept and raised the tone with them. I insisted on talking to a supervisor and he said he would personally walk it through repair next trip. This time they got it right. What a waste of my time and theirs, as well as shipping costs 3 round trips and parts replaced unnecessarily.

I finally got transferred from India back to the states to a supervisor. I politely said that this is getting ridiculous. I firmly said that if this 3rd trip doesn't fix it, then I'm going to need a new computer. He agreed and assured me that this now would go to the special desk in Temple. It could be one of those "checks in the mail" stories but if it comes back the 3rd run unfixed, my tone is going to seriously change. I have 2 other computers so it's not holding me up, I just want what I paid for and want it to work, is that too much to ask?

Sounds like you are following the same path I did. I will say this, when they finally go it fixed it is good now. Just got it out the other day after sitting for 3 weeks. Still had almost full charge and working good. And this is still on the original battery and charger.
