What did they end up replacing on yours?

FWIW, I my 1410 back from RMA repair for the battery drain issue. Nothing was done.
"Repair Comments: Power switch is software driven and will use power even when not powered on. Within factory specs."

I'm not as hopeful that they'll ever get mind fixed as I'm not sure if any of the AS1410 DON'T have this problem.

They replaced the "power board" appears to be under the power button on the AOD250.
I told them a computer that runs the battery down in 2-3 days while shut off is not acceptable.
Most laptops can sit for weeks without losing the charge. Poor engineering or a defect.

Hallelujah! Got the little guy back yesterday and you won't believe this one, it actually arrived and had a 98% charge. This was the 3rd time it got sent off and here is the outcome.

    This is what they replaced:
    Mainboard
    New transformer/power cord
    IO Board/USB board
    Power Board
    Thermal Module
New battery (the 3rd time they did this)

Counting the parts and man hours they sure did make any money off this unit. I'm sure I could have bought 2 new ones with what Acer spent on this one. I'll give them credit though, they have stood behind it.

I hope it's fixed for good.

Today's deal over at http://www.dealaire.com is kind of odd. It's a Replacement Lithium Battery for Acer Aspire One 11.6" (White or Black). They've had netbooks before but never replacement parts/accessories.

Battery drain issue drags on. Beginning to see this in resale of refurbished units as well as units bought new. The problem is pervasive and it seems people are being put off by it. In a nutshell the AA1 is of no use if it cant hold a charge. I have 2 D250s. Neither will hold a charge from the 3 cell batteries suppled for longer than a day. I have tried all suggestions from Acer customer service. Reset powere control (remove battery, hold power button for 30 sec, plug in, etc), update BIOS. Even went as far as to buy a new battery. Still drains completely within 2 days while off (completely off) even with the new 9 cell I bought. Interestingly, both the 3 and 9 cell batteries hold a charge just fine over a week or longer if I charge them in the system and then remove them. I understand how frustrating this is for Acer, but seriously, a device I thought was going to be a solution to my bulky laptop is turning out to be pretty much a paperweight. There are a lot of people affected by this. When is it going to be addressed?

In my experience the battery will drain even when taken out of the Acer. I left it out of the machine for four months, and it drained completely. Even when I leave it out of the machine for a few weeks, it has drained significantly. Looks to me like it is an issue with the battery, not just the way the machine uses it.

I've been haveing a battery drain just lately. Now for some reason when my system is unplugged even at full charge if I start playing a video, any video the battery drains to 0 in less then 10mins. It can be online, local, even video chats drain the battery right down.

Take your battery out or plug it in!

If someone else is reading this, and your battery is still functional, take your battery out if you think you may leave your machine off and unplugged for a week or more. For us, we kept the unit in our nightstand, and would sometimes go weeks without using it. I had been thinking my wife was using my machine and forgetting to charge the machine each time I started the machine and realized the battery was dead. Now, my battery has been drained completely enough times it will no longer hold a charge or even be recognized by the computer - the machine will shut off immediately if unplugged from the AC adapter.

It's truly a shame I did not recognize this problem sooner. At least I could have taken the battery out of the machine to prevent it from discharging the battery completely dead. (If you can not tell, this is not good for your battery.)

Now that my machine has stopped charging the battery at all, I decided to search to see if others were finding their machine continually discharging their battery even if they had saved to disk (hibernate). And this thread is my proof. Sadly, I am well out of warranty. I anticipate every Acer Aspire One owner that leaves their unit unplugged, but with the battery in, will soon find themselves with this problem.

Re: Take your battery out or plug it in!

Just as a follow-up to my post - I was able to get my battery to eventually work again. If this happens to you, follow these steps:
    1. With the battery in the unit and the battery light flashing (indicating a bad battery and it has stopped charging), remove the battery for a few seconds and place it back in the unit.
    2. The system will attempt to charge the battery for a while (sometimes over a minute), and then "give up" and start flashing the light again.
    3. Start at Step 1 again

After about 8 or so times of doing the above steps, the unit finally accepted the battery (like an organ or bastard child) and charged it completely. Happy day. My little Acer walks again.

Using the premise that it was charging the battery slightly on each session, but the battery was not responding within whatever interval required, I just kept inching the charge along until it finally took and began to charge. (I had an old Casio digital camera that did the same, and found a post online where someone suggested using a 9V battery of all things to inch the camera battery back to enough charge for the camera to accept it.) Fortunately, in this case, it does actually charge the battery for a while before giving up on it. (I used a Kill-a-watt to see it was consuming 20 watts with the system off until it started blinking.)

The battery does indeed seem damaged from several discharge-to-0 cycles; it's estimating I will only get an hour out of it. That's fantastic, however, compared to 0 and having the machine turn off immediately when unplugging it.

    I have come across this:

There seems to be a bug in BIOS power managment, so:
    1. Unplug charger, laptop goes to on battery mode (green leaf).
    2. Turn off laptop

I did the same for my netbook and it looses no power when off.

I have had the battery drain problem on my Aspire 1410-2801 since day one, about a year now. A fully charged battery would be dead in about 3 weeks with the note book OFF. I finally made up a jumper for the battery so I could measure the current drain. It turns out to be 8ma and drops to 6ma about 10 seconds after being connected. With the 4400mah battery, that's 4400/6/24 = 30 days maximum. The bios I had was the original ver 3105 if I recall.

I downloaded the bios update program ver 3314 (win32, win64 and dos versions) from us.acer.com, download section and tried to update the bios but the Windows bios update program would not run unless I was in the administrator account in Windows 7 and trying to setup the administrator account was not working. After fighting this for about 2 hours, I finally setup a DOS hard drive and ran the DOS version of the bios update program dated 8-31-2010 and now the current drain is only 2ma.

With the 4400mah battery, that should give 4400/2 = 2200 hours or 2200/24 = 92 days of storage capability. I was hoping for more but still a lot better than the 30 days max. befor the bios upgrade. For longer term storage, you may want to simply disconnect the main battery. Then the CMOS battery is the only thing being drained and that "should" be good for 5 to 10 years.
