I have had to get XP on my netbook and I want to extend the battery life for using it on the train. Apart from switching off wireless and dimming the monitor, are there any other ways of extending battery life?

If you have not already, install a1ctl! With it, you will be able to reduce your Atoms' speed by half, disable certain devices, turn off your fan, and emulate 1024 x 768. I'm sure slowing your CPU and turning off (or slowing) your fan will increase your battery life quite a bit. Also, turn down the speakers all the way for safe measures. Good luck! ;)

    Download from this link http://nodadev.wordpress.com/pc-projects/a1ctl/

You will probably need to download and install either jZip or 7Zip, which are zipped-file extractors. I recommend jZip.

You can find either at MajorGeeks.com.

Thank you very much. I've downloaded this and it seems to have extended the battery life. Are there any other hints?

I've looked for old threads but can't find any, but if anyone remembers old threads on this would be appreciated.

Yes, turn off WebCam, Lan, WiFi, use basic theme, use A1Ctl, turn off speaker, dim down the brightness

Doesn't a1ctl waste your battery instead? You can do all of the things metioned above (fan controll requires a bit more knowledge in hacking system resources) easily without the a1ctrl program.

If you have HDD version of AAOm you have an SD card and have a copy of eboostr program you can use it to extend up to 1 hour of battery life ( while surfing the web). You can also lower the hard drive automatic spin down time to 3 minutes to save more battery.
