Battery Life - Linux AAO

I've got an AAO 150-AW. 120GB HDD 1GB RAM. I've seen a guide for extending the battery life of an AAO but with XP installed. Is there a way of doing this but without buying a new larger cell battery. When I can't charge my AAO at University two hours isn't really long enough when I can't always run to the coffee shop to charge it there. Any help is welcomed. :)
