I just bought the new Acer Aspire One with Belgian keyboard (I wouldn't have bought it otherwize)

But after starting it up, choosing language "Nederlands" (which means Dutch)I was surprised that when I typed an 'A' a 'Q' apeared instead.
The keyboard is still in QWERTY and not in AZERTY..

In settings => general settings, I changed the keyboard type from unknown to Belgian, but still no change.

    What can I do???

Try to follow those instructions with "be,gb,us" or only "be" even...

Thank you for the reply but without any luck.
It was not the last but the one-but-last "XkbLayout" entry in this file that was "gb,us".
I changed it to to "be,gb,us", saved it and reboot but still the same problem.
    Any other suggestions?

    Hello again,

In the topics you sent me I found out that typing " setxkbmap be " switches to a Belgian keyboard.
But as mentioned , it's gone again after reboot.

To make it permanent I read something about

Just add the following ServerFlags in the file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf
the serverflags will prevent that your settings will be overwritten next time...

    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "DontZap" "yes"
    Option "DontVTSwitch" "yes"
    # these (2) are added :
    Option "XkbDisable" "yes"
    Option "DisableModInDev" "yes"
    EndSection[/b]

    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Keyboard0"
    Driver "kbd"
    Option "CoreKeyboard"
    Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option "XkbLayout" "uk"
    Option "XkbVariant" "euro"
    EndSection

=>I did the the same with XkbLayout" "be"

Result after reboot: still querty instead of Azerty

Help .... (Linux is new for me)

    You can also try that:
    (from viewtopic.php?f=5&t=102&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=60#p2795 )

    - Alt+F2 +
    Code:
    sudo mousepad ~/.config/autostart/belgique4ever.sh

    - with only this content (without quotes): " setxkbmap be " (the command you mentioned was working fine) and save the file
    - run Alt+F2 "sudo thunar" or the Acer file explorer from the frontpage
    - enter in the address bar "~/.config/autostart/" (because it's a hidden directory, you won't see it in the 'home' directory/not possible to enter it by clicking)
    - hopefully you should see "belgique4ever.sh"
    - Right click on the file - properties - permissions - tick box for "allow this file to run as a program"

It should run this command at every boot (instead of typing manually) - try to look-up in Google how to make an automatic script at start-up in Linux if it still doesn't work.
I don't know very well myself! The equivalent of windows 'Startup' directory. ;)

I also got my Aspire One with an AZERTY keyboard this week with the same problem...

After a lot of googling I found a simple solution on a Norwegian site (the Norwegian keyboard seemed to have the same problem). The solution was to add the line setxkbmap be in /home/user/.bash_profile and that worked.

However, today a Live Update became available regarding the Belgian and the Norwegian keyboard problems. I've updated, removed the line from the .bash_profile, rebooted... and the AZERTY keyboard is still working !

Indeed, the patch received this morning with live update for Keyboard BE didn't work.
Your solution does the job just perfect !!!!
After reboot, keyboard Belgian is active.

    Thanks Margo.

P.S. Margo: I suppose you are a Belgian user. Are you planning on connecting a 3G modem? Maybe we can open a topic on this?
