There are LOTS of suggested ways to configure AA1 by changing your distribution, kernel, filesystem and configuration files. These things in addition the various combinations of hardware creates a little confusion about how to get the most from your AA1. Thus I want us to post the results from benchmarking tests in this thread, to clear up some confusion. Of course quality can't just be measured in terms of performance but it is a good place to start for those looking to get a new distribution on to their AA1.

    Note:
If you are new to Linux I do not recommend running these benchmarks. If these instructions do not work on your distribution and you have a working set of instructions please post them. Moreover, if anything needs clarification please ask.

    Performance:

For the benchmarking for these tests we are using the Phoronix Test Suite which is available from: http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com/inde ... =downloads . For Debain based systems it is simple matter of installing the package and running

    Code:
    phoronix-test-suite benchmark netbook
Make sure you save the results and when it prompts you to post it to the Phoronix Global site.

    NOTE:
-Downloading/Installing all the tests run by the suite takes about one hour. The tests themselves may take as much as 6 hours! I recommend first letting the suite install all the tests, closing the terminal (or crtl-z) when the installation is complete and running the tests (using the same command) overnight.
-If someone would please test how well it works on non-Debain based distros and post the DETAILED installation instructions here. (I will copy those instructions into this post to simplify the installation process)
-Make sure you have at least a few GB free on your drive (at least 3GB is recommended before performing these instructions. do not worry you will still have space after the testing is done but the testing itself requires some free drive space while it is in progress)

    Boot Charts:

To get bootchart install the bootchart package through your package manager for example in ubuntu:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install bootchart
    and than reboot your computer.

The bootchart should be in /var/log/bootchart

    Idle Power Usage:

Simply check your power usage when your computer is idle through Gnome power manager/insert your application here. Please dim the screen as much as possible (but do NOT turn it off/close the lid).

    Suggested Format:

The following are my own results and are how I would like people to post results.

Note: I messed up some of my results by using other applications during the testing (though the majority of the tests should be accurate). Please try to run the tests from a normal "idle" state with wifi and other basic things you run like compiz (if you normally run it) on. This is not a competition! (or at least it is not yet!).

Base System: AA1 8GB SSD, 1GB RAM, default BIOS
Distribution: Linux Mint 6, GNOME, Ext3 with 1GB swap
    Kernel: Sickboy/Kuki 0.2
Modifications/comments: All mods from the wiki applicable to the AA1 SSD
    -Acerfand is not installed
    -Compiz was on

    Benchmarks:

    Boot Chart:

    (To be added soon)

    Idle Power Usage:

    8.6W
