Hello everyone. I just bought my AAO and I wanted to know what is, in your opinion the best Operating System for the AAO´s with the SSDs. You see, I want an OS that doesnt kill the life with the SSD with all the random writing or if theres a OS that can be easily customized to accomodate this particular problem. Thanks!

The best OS for me is Fedora. :) But if you want one with minimal writes to the SSD, try Puppy. When you install it, there are several options, including one to install on flash drive. I believe the whole OS is loaded to RAM at boot time and doesn't write to disk until you save your session at logout time. As for me, I've made a few tweaks found on these forums to cut back some of the writing to SSD, most notably using ext2 instead of ext3 and using tmpfs for temp and /var/log.

But honestly, I'm not too worried about the SSD's lifespan. I figure it will last at least 3 or 4 years and by then these netbooks will be so much better and cheaper I'll just buy a new one rather than replace the SSD.

I guess I´ll murder the SSD then. Figure it´ll last at least a year and a half on heavy usage. My Acer was dirt cheap ($250 on NewEgg.com), so I don´t see why I shouldn´t sqeeze the money spent on it. Besides I also have a spare 1.8¨ Hitachi PATA to mod it later. I just need to get some sort of Flip Zif cable...whatever that means.
