Just to point this out: I've asked the Board Admin to add a forum under the Linux section specifically for update issues. I suggest any future issues are reported in that board, to make it easy to find them in the future - it's then easy to check whether any issues have been reported before running the update. Of course, you may still be the first to find an issue, so it won't guarantee safety, but it's better than nothing!

I'm going to post there linking to this thread to start it off.

Damn it! I have been trying to make the touchpad work since this morning, and still, no luck!

Can anyone help me out? The latest live update broke my touchpad and I use it a lot!

This touchpad problem seems to be reported in:
    http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2058
with a "fix" given by philippeC to "reload the mouse module":
I can't seem to gather sufficient faith in this update to try it - yet
    Cowardly - Yep

I'm not doing any Live updates unless they're crucial for the system. They always seem to break more than they fix. I'd toss my AAO against a wall after a while if I had to keep entering in different wifi passwords.

Just to balance this out....I did the live update yesterday from a re-installed system and can report NO PROBLEMS. Remember that the Acer guys cannot take into account any modifications or tweaks you may do. They have to assume they are updating a standard Acer system. Maybe the best thing is to re-install, update and then do any tweaks you want. If you want to change the Acer OS then you will not be able to rely on Acer updates to work around any dependecy issues caused by other applications. I am using the "right click" menu to install any extra apps I want but don't put them on the Acer desktop.
It pays to remember that Acer have managed to produce a stylish, well made, flexible machine that has pretty good performance...all for a very good price!!

Strange. The updates didn't affect my FF3. It is still working nicely.

Yes there's no update or change to the browser in this latest update package.

Not sure if this is a result of the Live Update, but when I try to add a new program via the System Add/Remove Software menu, I get the error message in pirut "An unhandled exception has occurred....

    Component: pirut
Summary: TB91835f44 GroupSelector.py:211:_pkgToggled:TypeError: GtkTreeModel.get_iter_from_string() argument 1 must be string, not tuple

    Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/pirut/GroupSelector.py", line 208, in _rowToggle
    self._pkgToggled(None, path)
File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/pirut/GroupSelector.py", line 211, in _pkgToggled
    i = self.pkgstore.get_iter_from_string(path)
TypeError: GtkTreeModel.get_iter_from_string() argument 1 must be string, not tuple

    Local variables in innermost frame:
    path: (6,)
    widget: None
    self: <pirut.GroupSelector.OptionalPackageSelector instance at 0xb18810c>

I had no problems before installing the update. Anybody have any idea what the error is, or how to fix it?

    Many Thanks

**EDIT** Seems to have resolved itself - a server issue maybe?

I also had the trackpad issue, I disabled shmconfig in xorg.conf and it works as a workaround. Unsure if that just forced a reload or something...

well, personally i'm thinking that modding my desktop is of no use to me since i'm the only one who uses it and i don't need eye candies for myself and the acer desktop is *very* usable [and functional, it's not too bad because i choose performance over looks], but does adding icons to the acer desktop wrecks it after a live update?

Well, I have a problem now of a very strange nature.
When I did the update the first time everything worked fine but then I tried to install Transmission and I didn't really look at what was being installed and it kind of fucked up the whole thing.
So I had to re-install Linpus, which was quite easy actually.....
Anyway, I did the update before installing any new software and now, Amarok can't read mp3 anymore..... But it does work on the shitty Asus media player.....
    Anyone got the same problem?

By the way, the sound quality is much, much better ;-)

Mp3s still work for me in Amarok.

I also think that the sound is better since the Update.

@ jhedrotten : No offence, but the Asus Media Player is a bit rubbish and I've got quite a big music collection.... So I need something a bit robust. :D

I think he was suggesting that you might be referring to the Acer Media Player ;)
