Currently have 3305 on the AAO. I notice on the Acer site that version 3309 is available. I'm running Windows XP and wondering if I should flash 3309. Wondering what are the benefits and risks.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I did the same thing you are thinking about, I didn't really notice any change. I think the only reason to do it if you are going to be installing Vista. What you might want to do is flash to 3308 instead as that is considered the latest stable bios.

I went from 3305 as shipped to 3309 without issue. Since I'm still running XP, the only benefit I saw was the increased LCD back light range. Running the LCD back light at lower levels should at least theoretically improve time on battery.

I updated to 3309 from 3301, back light is much better now. I can drop it down as far as my dads One (3114 bios).

Also, I'm running Vista and the SILC thing works. Activated Vista with my license info.

Other than that, seems the same.

How do you flash the BIOS, I have tried and I can;t get it to work, do you have to be in safe mode or what.

You can have access to lower brightnesses, that is what I noticed.

I run Bios 3308 and can change the brightness by holding the Fn key down and using the left or right keys at the bottom right of the keyboard.

If you running Windows you can use provided flash utility working very well under this OS. Flash utility is coming with BIOS as a one package. I used this one exactly and I'm happy...

+1 on this BIOS Flashing, worked perfectly here. I formatted to FAT32 and it all went smoothly !

I am a new Aspire owner, I had a EEE PC 900A and the SSD drive crapped out. I wasnt real happy with the system and just picked up a new Aspire in Cobalt Blue with the Atom processor and a 120 gig HD! Better price than any of the HD versions of the EEE and it was available at my local Walmart !!

Looking forward to upgrading the memory !

I hope this help any. I just got an AA1 from Walmart 17 days ago. Mine stop posting and nothing was posting including the screen. Took it back to Wally, they said I only had a 15 day warranty. It was 6:15pm GMA-6 timeframe. So, Acer was closed by then! Got on theit support webbie and found out that my BIOS needed to upgrade. Originally, I don't know what version of the BIOS I was running. After flasing the 3309 version, I got my AA1 to post. I haven't call ACER back or had any problems with 3309. Nothing improved, just got my AA1 to boot back to normal -- "whew!" Thank you.

I used the above method as well and it updated fine. What is the deal with the usb stick though? You formatted to FAT32 when the article says to format it to FAT. I went the FAT route since that is what it said to do in the article. Does it matter if you go FAT32 or FAT? I am kinda worried now since doing the flash. If I was suppose to use FAT32 instead of FAT.
