My gift of a Acer Aspire one comes in soon.
Aware of it seems is a lot of problems involving bios corruption - seems like a deal breaker?
is it that big of a issue - I have never heard of a laptop with this kind of problem (black screen of death)..
    Will it ever go away?

    So?

Hi I think u mean everytime u try to install Windows into ur existing Linux AAO u kept getting the BSOD right? If u tried using usb and ext DVD drive to install non-genuine Windows it will gave u this problem or stop u from installing. Seems like the BIOs or some built in software in the AAO are able to detect ur windows and stop it from installing, just my guess and still trying to find out also.

First thing to do when you receive your AAO: unpack, plug it in, and upgrade the BIOS to the latest version (3309). You will be just fine...

Hate to sound stupid, but how do you upgrade the BIOS? Is there a Acer Support site to download the BIOS update?

Yes there is an Acer Support site: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/no ... e_150.html
Download the newest BIOS and follow the instructions here: http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/07/flashing-bios.html

Just a Bit Of An Inquiry, do you need to install previous bios before installing the new bios cause i see like v.3114 or something to the new one v.3309 and was worndering if i needed to install the old ones before the new ones cause the size is like 819kbs?

stick with the highest numbered officially released revision.

and FYI, a BIOS update is a piece of cake compared to trying to create a bootable USB flash drive. Just requires a tiny bit of patience, since it will take a few minutes.
