I just came across this thread tonight and saw it was a little ways down. Was really hoping it would be figured out.

Come on guys.At least let us know you're done trying.

I've followed this up a bit. I'm using a D250 bios but once the arrangement and structure is worked out it should be applicable to all of the aspire one netbook range.

Instead of using gnubeard's method using the insyde tools, you can compile http://marcansoft.com/uploads/insydehacks/scanlzma.c which you can use to decompress the file (which is LZMA compressed) to 3mb. The file is null from 001AE966 (Almost half the whole file). You can use a hex editor and view all the strings (some interesting stuff) and the compiled stuff, examples include
    Code:
    Intel(R) DVMT(Dynamic Video Memory Technology)
    <32MB>
    64MB
    128MB
    224MB

Which appears to be a menu seeing as 32MB is enclosed in <> (although it may be the string for the intel bios)
    Code:
    Advanced CPU Control
These items control various CPU parameters
    Platform Power Managment
    ACPI S3:Enable/Disable
    ACPI S1/S3 Sleep state
    Wake on PME
Determines the action taken when the system power is off and a PCI Power Management Enable wake up event occurs
    Wake on Modem Ring

Of course, these are just the strings of the menu's that are obviously there but not enabled. Unfortunately Marcan's (http://marcansoft.com/blog/2009/06/enab ... ire-8930g/) scripts don't work with our bios (compressed or decompressed)(so far I've only tested a downloaded bios from Acer). He uses a dumped bios from /dev/mem dumped using dd (can't do this currently, have to recompile my kernel without the CONFIG_STRICT_DEVMEM flag). I can't work out whether the bios he dumped is compressed or decompressed (most likely decompressed unless there's some funky code involved) but it doesnt matter until i can dump mine.

I am hoping that the way the menu's are hidden is that their parent menu is set to null and therefore they are not displayed (what i've deduced from reading some stuff). Once i find the menu structure i should be able to set the parent.

    Another thing i did find was http://feature-enable.blogspot.com/2009 ... -vaio.html

I know we dont want to do it for a sony vaio (or enable VT), but the guy modified grub and details instructions on how to boot an EFI executable (patched grub in this case) from USB storage, you can then set the variables (which is what all menus do in a user friendly way) through a set of commands. I have yet to get my aspire one to boot the executable (although i think it may be for x64 systems so i'm going to patch grub myself and try again).

I'll update with my status as i go.

Yeh. There aren't any modded bioses released with the advanced menu unlocked but all the information on how to do it is there. It won't lead to any additional RAM or stuff, just extra settings.

All you'll be able to get is this

    and

In conclusion...i doubt there's any point continuing :p

Are you able to post resources and a guide for this??

    Would be ever so grateful!

I've flashed the bios on my aoa 150 and now it was not working. I've tried many times to flash it again but no luck. Please can anyone know how to flash it because i've tried all the tricks like blind flashing. And i think it had bricked, please help me to bring it back again to life. I swear i'll never flash it again.

    Vpc-z13v9e

    Hi,

I have a sony VPC-Z13V9E, with bios problems.

on boot always gives error; “ME FW UPDATE FAILURE,PLEASE TRY AGAIN”

On Bios, Serial number, service tag and product name(VPCZ129FX) is all diferent
    from computer original sticker.

On Bios ME VERSION is unknown.

I tried updating the Bios but already have last update R3031c3.

Computer boots fine( with error message) all drivers installed, the fan is always
working and after 40/45minutes the laptop turns off.

i would like to know if this could be repaired modifiying the bios
