Hmm... After upgrading to the v.3114 BIOS the fan is constantly on and I think the air from the exhaust on the left side is a bit warmer.

Before the upgrade, the fan was almost whisper quiet but after upgrading to v.3114 my fan is quite noisy and always on. Are you experiencing the same symptoms? Since the earlier BIOS is not available I can't roll back and verify this.

A110, 8GB P-SSD1800, Linpus plus the latest Live Updates.

Yea I just got mine the other day and noticed that the fan is always running I found it kind of odd, are there any programs you can throttle the fan down that are windows based?

Have you checked that the processor speed was still dynamically reduced to 800MHz when usage is low, as it's supposed to be ? If your proc is constantly running at 1600 MHz, that might explain the heat and therefore the fan noise.

Well sorry I don't know about Windows, but on my Linux distro (Xubuntu), you get a plugin which displays the proc frequency. Maybe you can get a similar utility for Windows, I don't know.

If you're using XP, you may want to check in the power control panel to see what scheme is active. If the "Always On" scheme is on it'll disable SpeedStepping.

Set it up to "Portable/Desktop" and the throttling should work again.

You can check your speed in the system properties by pressing the windows (or house) key along with the "pause/break" key on your keyboard.

Same issue after BIOS upgrade. Fan speed is now always on highest. CPU is 800 MHz ( grep 'cpu MHz' /proc/cpuinfo ). This is very annoying.

My Fan's on alll the time too after 3114 bios update. I updated because I had some WiFi WEP issues. I wished the the update made a backup and asked for confirmation first before starting the upgrade.

I had a look at the flash utility and you can make a backup with it. Any one still have a older BIOS (Probably 3109 ) out there willing to make a bios dump ?
To make a backup follow the make BIOS instructions. But instead of running the BAT file type the following at the command line:

    FLASHIT ZD5_3xxx.FD /AC /G

This will dump the BIOS to the file BIOS3xxx.FD and won't nag about a missing AC adapter. Please replace the 3xxx with your bios version. You can find it on the Setup information screen when you press F2 on bootup.

    Thanks.

Is there a fan control util that can be used for the AA1? When I had my eeePC 701, there was a wonderful app that allowed me to control cpu clocking and the fan in the system tray, wonder if there is such an animal for the AA1's.

    Here's a dump of 3109 bios from my 110L.
    Hope it helps :)

    bios 3109 dump

    *edit*
I am having problems with restore from this dump. Bios was dumped as discribed earlier by someone else.

I got 2 one's though, and I noticed that after updating to new bios, more heat comes out than in 3109 bios... but might be something else than bios related.
I'm running linux on both mashines.

Thanks for dumping the bios ! what problem did you have when you tried restoring the bios using that dump ?

    *EDIT*

I noticed the dump checksum fails. :-(

Thanks for uploading the old BIOS. Are there any reports yet on reinstalling it?
v.3114 did not make much of a difference to my machine but the fan is now always on, so I would like to go back.
