Hey Jackluo. Thats exactly what i intend to do. Put a fat blob of solder across the current short and excess solder. Then wick it all out leaving contacts in good condition.

    Thanks for the link teh_qube

You can say it that way, but it's not a accurate description.

The wick doesn't actually "make" the solder go to the connections and automatically seperate each pin..etc. It just appears to be like that.

Hey guys. I done the cn11 BT mod. That needs to be stickied. All props to tnkgrl and her modding skills. But its a nuisance when you search for internal bt mod and you get 3 pages of tnkgrl's pcie method. That USB header has 2 usb ports on it. The row above where it is instructed has 5 pins, the 5 pin is another ground, the 1st 4 are standard usb pins. So something else can be soldered there if wanted, GPS or touchscreen maybe? Anyway, less than 5 minutes and no need for the hubble telescope to see what your doing. Great stuff.

Cant wait to unshort my PCIE to see if it actually works lol

Hey guys. Got the solder wick. Took out all the short circuits. Laptop doesnt power off after 3 seconds now. But it also doesnt output anything to the screen. I wanted to make sure i got rid of all the shorts so i removed the pcie connector all together. Still nothing on the screen.

Im gonna bite the bullet and say that iv f00ked the mobo of this laptop, as far as im aware evertyhing else works fine. The keyboard, trackpad, webcam, screen, daughterboard, and anything else you can think of. If anyone would like to purchase any of the above. Contact me and i'll do you a deal. My internal modding days came to a rather bleak end

so wait, have you disconnected the wifi pci-e card? and what have you connected on the CN11? the bluetooth mod? and it shuts down?

have you tried with no pci-e connector and no bluetooth?

also can you take pictures? like close up macros of the attempts you did on the +5V prior to the CN11? maybe there are some issues there..

Hmmm that would have probably been worth the effort. But like i said. Losses cut. Screen is on ebay for £60 buy it now. Aswell as the keyboard, microphone and webcam for not a lot. The motherboard might go up for spares and repairs. As far as im aware it still has a working Atom N270 installed. aswell as all the other stuff. Anyone interested let me know

I had some troubles soldering onto those tiny contacts. What I did in the end to figure out if any of them were shorted was to use an ohm-meter. If there is high (infinite) resistance between the contacts, they were good. Otherwise, I kept using the wick.
