My son's Aspire One has -- just today -- begun experiencing some bizarre I/O problems: It responds willingly to the touchpad and buttons, but not to the keyboard; it will log in to wireless, but keeps disconnecting immediately from the Ethernet port. Further, some of the settings for display appear to have been changed (minor things like small/large icons)... and pressing <F2> on startup doesn't help.

I've reseated the SD expansion card; I've removed and replaced the battery (which is in excellent condition and fully charged).

Short of threatening it with a baseball bat, any suggestions?

Is it brand new unit or refurbished one?? Did anyone had a chance to dig in the config?? And what system you use: Windows or Linux??

It's an 18-month-old (one owner, well cared-for) Linux unit with the SSD (no hard drive). And I can't dig very far into the config without the keyboard...

Ok. We can try eliminate some problems. First thing you can do is connect USB keyboard and boot the system. If it works that's may be faulty keyboard in AA1. If it does not it's system issue...

OK, I tried a USB keyboard and it worked. The built-in keyboard failure was sudden and catastrophic. What bothers me is the simultaneous failure of the Ethernet port, which leads me to believe that this is not a hardware problem with the keyboard, but requires a system-level software reset to run it down.

You can try System Restore then. It may help with software related issues...

Instructions for System Restore? (My son, who owns the machine, isn't the best about keeping his manuals handy... and he's on a trip at the moment.)

There is no instruction as such. During machine boot pres "Alt + F10" I think - I may be wrong as I never used that function...
