black screen w/ cursor

    I had probably been fiddling around too much with my aao, because it would not display the desktop today. It sat there. quietly, showing a black screen and a cursor. I am not a total linux newbie, so I guess it would be a problem with the xorg config file... but ctrl-alt-f1 or -f2 would not work, and i couldnt do anything about it from a terminal or console. I was able to hit tab at startup to conjure a grub menu, but couldnt figure out how to make it start a rescue console or something like that. Is it even possible?

    i already reinstalled from rescue usb, but the question still stands for future reference :)
