On two occasions the screen has gone blank whilst using an application (not the same one). What is the recommended way of dealing with this ? Is there a more elegant solution than simply forcing a shutdown by holding the on/off button down ?

This might be a stupid question, but have you try the Enter key?

I tried quite a few keys but I don't remember exactly which. Next time I will start with Enter. Thanks for the tip.

You can try the blue key (Fn) + F6 key? (LCD On/Off)

Or also Fn+F5 several times if needed, waiting for 3 seconds between each.
(This switches from LCD/VGA outputs and may get your screen back.)

    Tell us if it worked?

Really? I got mine on Friday. PC World had loads of them. Got it price matched from dabs then staff discount (it's not what you know...)

Back ot, I've had the black screen too, although I had the pointer still visible and moving, nothing seemed to work apart from powering off then on again.

I got the 512Mb 8gb ssd linpus version because it's exactly what I needed, but that's the only modelthat I saw, thought I can find out.

And PC world is expensive, I only bought mine there becuase I know someone who works there and can get 10% staff discount.

That was my impression too, though, as I have not had the problem again, I have not been able to try the potential solutions posted in this thread.

    @ dougman

i think ill hold out until play.com starts selling theirs.

pc world is too expensive, especially when i don't know anyone who works there!
+ i can be certain that play.com will have the version i want. in fact, i think they have every AA1 model available on preorder!.

I've just had the blank screen problem again. I suspect it was due to the battery being very low.

I tried Enter, esc, ctrl+alt+del and fn+f5 to no avail. I connected up the charger and tried again but that didn't help so I had to resort to the long push on the power button.

I forgot to try fn+f6 so that will be for next time.

I've had this happen to me a couple of times. The screen would suddenly go blank without warning. The battery meter didn't appear to be low enough for it to go on standby, but judging how long I had the unit on I suspect the meter is off and the battery was low. Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 didn't do anything and I had to hold the power button to turn it off. If I tried to boot it back up, it would stay on for a minute or so and then blank the screen again. Only after plugging the unit back in and then booting will it stay on (plugging in and then trying the Fn keys didn't do anything, still had to power off).

    Hai,

I also have the same blank screen problem. Worse, screen can be blank, even when you keep them idle.
I called Acer call centre, they said probably the flexible need to be fixed. But for sure they just told me to see the Acer service centre.
For the next couple of day, I'll go to the service centre.
I hope this problem could be fixed.
