Tried it, didn't do the job. Get message about no live cd inserted and no prompt to change to other driver. Will try with different usb stick and maybe with live cd in external disk driver. Thanks for quick reply.

Was just looking for this. I will try this on my aspireone as a BIOS update exercise did not succeed 100%.

@ PlaNxa, I am assuming by your signature line that you succeeded in flashing the BIOS; any tips for the rest of us? I also have a D250. Mine has Version 1.05 now, but I see on the ACER website there is Version 1.25 and Version 1.26 (for Windows 7 with N280 processor).

This thread is about emergency flashing, right? Where do I find a guide to regular flashing? I read somewhere that it could be done from within Windows XP, is that correct and if so, how?

    Thanks, John

I have a dead Linux loaded AOA150. I have read and tried all the procedures for BIOS update and recovery that I can find. I originally tried updating to solve the problem of "no charge to a dead battery". I eventually succeeded in using a bootable Freedos USB stick. The procedure went ahead and reported "BIOS successfully updated" but now the pesky machine won't boot - blank screen. There must have been a change to the BIOS because it now recognises the battery and has re-charged it. The machine worked ok on mains before but now doesn't work at all.
I have tried the USB stick (FAT & FAT32) with the BIOS file re-named etc as per Macles. (I have tried it so many times that I want to cry in my beer!) I have tried the stick in all three USB ports but there is no flashig at all from the stick LED so it does not appear to reading the stick and will therefore never flash the BIOS.

Anybody know what I can do next, pleeeeeze?

When doing Macles Bios recovery, you hold two keys down and press the power button, then the power button starts to flash (Blink).
    http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer ... overy.html

Did you get the flashing power button? Sometimes it takes a couple of tries?

Second press of power button, (while it is flashing), starts the bios rewrite script.

Thanks for reply. Yes, I have pressed Fn+Esc and released after power button starts to flash. I get power button continuously flashing (forever!!). Pressing it again makes no difference - it still flashes. There is no indication that the USB stick is being read - no flasing from its internal LED. I have tried this procedure more than 20 times over the last 3 days but no results. (Is it time to get the hammer out!?)

Remove the battery and charger, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Then try the macles blind flash again, after that it will need the bios chip replaced or reprogramed.

Jerry i think i have hit the same problem :(
Can you tell me how a BIOS chip can be reprogrammed ?
And will replacing the bios chip still retain the Crisis recovery mode ?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    thanks

You can replace the Bios chip with a pre-programed chip. Which is simplier then trying to remove and program yourself.

The crisis recovery will still be on the chip.

Re: blind flashing truely explained in full for the aspire o

Truly you are da man Jerry :)

thanks for the link, will keep that handy.

Luckily my system wasn't booting up as i had installed a qualcomm 3G MC 5725 (CDMA) card on the wifi PCIe slot hoping to reserve the newly modded 3G PCIe slot for a GSM 3G card to have a universal 3G machine ready for both CDMA as well as GSM networks,

and all the while i was thinking i had messed up my bios.

As a matter of fact I tried working my way back on the modifications i had attempted, namely the touchscreen and the 3G modds, and while trouble shooting i removed the 3G card and started the machine and to my delight it started. When i installed the CDMA card on the newly modded PCIe slot, eureka!!! it was recognized in my ubuntu network manager applet as soon as i pushed the modified switch to the left side. (I have not yet tested it for functionality as i am yet to setup a 3G account.)

    Need help on the following...
    1. Just a small question will a 3G card which is not dependent on a SIM card not work on the wifi slot as the card works on a USB bus ? any modifications that might make it work on it will be most helpful.

    2. Need help on installing my touchscreen drivers on windows XP and Ubuntu 9.4 netbook remix Operating System.
I am some what disappointed as i was hoping it would turn my aspireone into an Ipad or atleast close to it :)

    thanks in advance.

AOA110 and 150, the wifi slot is wired for USB. So any USB card will work in that slot.

Re: blind flashing truely explained in full for the aspire o

does that mean it should work ???
...as to my knowledge all the 3G cards are designed to work on the USB bus(as a USB device on a PCIe slot) and not on the PCIe bus. If so then the card should be detected.

then is there a reason why the system won't boot at all when i install the MC5725 CDMA(EV-DO) card on the wifi PCIe slot ???

Are there some steps that i can troubleshoot to identify the problem ? Please let me know.

    thanks.

I am very new. I have read these posts about locked up, black screen ACER on, D250 netbooks. I am not the greatest computer person, but please explain this to me. Will this flashing the BIOS erase the memory with all my computer files?

Nope, flashing the BIOS only effects the BIOS, nothing to do with the hard drive what-so-ever.

Re: blind flashing truely explained in full for the aspire o

Hi, I been trying to blind flash my AO751H. I downloaded the files that people have told me, but they seem to be for other models and it doesn't work. I also tried downloading the files for my model from the acer site but it doesn't work cause they're files to be used within windows. Here's what happens:

I hold fn + esc, turn on, the power light blinks, the USB drive blinks for 5 seconds, turns off for 3 seconds, and repeats. Been there for 45 min doing the same thing. What am I doing wrong?
