Being a Linux noob, I'm having a hard time following the instructions for getting an external bluetooth dongle to work.

Can somebody hold my hand and walk me though it? Please? I've honestly gone through about everything I can find on the subject and I still don't get it. Is there a simple installation package that is available?

To me, the appeal of this little 'netbook' is it's ability to travel with me easier than mot other notebooks. Yet Internet access is an important part of that. I sure would enjoy using my 3G phone with the One.

Thanks in advance for any help or guidance I can get.

I took have tried to get my ThinkOutside bluetooth mouse to connect. I tried to follow the directions posted at viewtopic.php?f=16&t=789 . But, being a noobe I'm lost at "yum install" and downloading, copying/installing the two *.gtz files to /usr/..etc.. Are there simpler instructions or a rookie walk-through? Thank you, gB-)

    Yeah!!! I installed: bluez-gnome, bluez-hcidump, bluez-libs, bluez-libs-devel, bluez-utils, gnome-ppp, gnome-bluetooth by -- rightClickingMouse|System|Add/Remove Software|Password| Package Manager.

I'm at "Can't open RFCOMM control socket: Address family not supported by protocol" menu.

    Now, I downloaded:
    http://www.adsl24.co.uk/files/drivers/bluetooth2.tgz
    http://www.adsl24.co.uk/files/drivers/bluetooth.tgz
and they're in the /download directory.

How do I copy / install these two files to the correct sub-directories?

    gB-)

    Yeah Again!!
I discovered the terminal commands: cd /home/user/Download; and, tar -zxvf bluetooth(2).tgz. There are a lot of files, huh?
Now, to get these two "unzipped" files to their proper folders: /lib/modules/2.6.23.9lw/kernel..etc.

    gB-)

    What!?! I got results.

Moved ('mv' command) the *tgz file to their respective directories and then used the following commands to open/install the tgz files:
    cd /where/the/tgz/is (ex. /home/bryan/bricscad)
    tar -zxvf <name of tgz>

I ran the 'bluetooth-applet' and I now have the bluetooth icon on the bottom of the screen. The bluetooth dongle ain't blinking yet. No connection between Kensington dongle and ThinkOutside mouse either.

    Lots of progress. Yeah! gB-)

Thanks for the update. I can pair, but can't make a data call currently (from my memory it says something about not finding a modem). I'll try your trick soon and see where it gets me.

Lastly, to begin using my ThinkOutside bluetooth mouse when I fire up my AA1 after 'shutdown' I need to run in TERMINAL the following commands:

    sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth start
    sudo hidd --search

In my bluetooth manager icon (right-mouse click) |preference|Services Tab|check 'inupt services'
In the localhost-0 tab| check 'visable and connectable for other devices'

It's working like a champ this morning. ;) gB-)

Is there a way to do all of this automatically on startup?

Still no luck with bluetooth dialup. I get an error in terminal saying

GNOME PPP: STDERR: --> Cannot open /dev/rfcomm0: No route to host

I can ping the phone and get a list of services from it. just no dialing.

I'm about ready to install windows but shudder at the thought LOL.

    Conrad,
In root I've opened, using the MousePad editor, the /etc/rc.local file and added the to lines below with and without the sudo.

    /etc/init.d/bluetooth start
    hidd --search

No joy. My AA1 doesn't search for my bluetooth mouse at startup. Still working (playing really) to get an automatic stare using the bluetooth mouse without opening TERMINAL.

    cheers, georgeB

    I'm good up to here:
In the localhost-0 tab| check 'visable and connectable for other devices'
    I don't have a "localhost-0" tab
Using the Kensington micro usb adapter. No blinking.
    Ideas, please?
