I grabbed myself one of those micro USB dongles and it installed perfectly fine through WinXP.

So now it's installed, I'm using the generic bluetooth stuff that XP installed as the dongle didn't come with any driver cd. So I've set things up and it works fine e.g. receiving/sending files but the problem I'm experiencing is that it's not discoverable even though I've got it set as discoverable in the options.

So in order for me to send a file from phone to pc, I have to manually select receive a file in the options and go through the wizard.

Could it be hardware related or would the problem be fixed if I used a different software?

Generally speaking, the MS drivers are severely underfeatured. As a note for anyone else who has BT issues, find out whether your BT dongle/device uses widcomm/bluesoleil/toshiba drivers and use those instead. Trying to get the MS drivers to work with cell phones is almost always a disastrous experience (see: howardforums boards for details)

My bluetooth mouse has stopped working when I turned on the Acer about 4 hours ago. Network says it's disconnected but other programs say it's working. I only got them last week ie the Noiro dongle and a Microsoft Notebook Mouse 5000 v1.0. I also bought a Blue Next dongle and that doesn't seem to work either. Neither can it find my wife's bluetooth enabled phone whereas the Noiro did before as well as working with the bluetooth mouse. Prior to saying it was disconnected it reported that it was firewalled.

Apart from having to do a bios recovery and update to 3305 this last weekend, I noticed when I switched on the Acer earlier that the touch pad buttons were now set up for a left hander.
Before I spend any more time on it has anyone got any suggestions? Is it a hardware or a software problem?
I suppose I could try them out in another XP PC in the house.

After a couple of hours of playing around with it, changing dongles and Remove/Add Bluetooth Devices etc, my MS Bluetooth mouse is working again though I'm not certain why it stopped or why it's restarted. One possibility is that the passkey option somehow had been activated in XP. Msoft say a passkey is not needed for a mouse whilst it is for a Btooth keyboard. Perhaps my recent bios crash, recovery and update affected things but it's a long shot.

Despite a working bt mouse, Control Panel>Personal Area Networks shows "Bluetooth Network Connection" is Disconnected Firewalled. This may change when my wife return home with her bt enabled mobile phone.
