I am trying to install linux on a win98se computer with an intel pentium2. Even setting the bios to boot off the cd does not work. It ignores the cd because it can't read it. Same with the usb stick. Why? When I stick the cd into my ext dvd rom drive on the aspire it detects an autoboot and asks whether to ignore or run.

How do I install on my pentium machine?

never mind. just realized the win98 computer only has a cd rom drive which is why it can't read the disk. may try plugging in my ext dvd drive and see what happens.

    Re: boot from dvd???

not possible to install from an EXT DVD???????

how do I get the installation started from a windows 98 computer on an external dvd to my windoze 98 computer because you can't boot an external dvd?

I was told that there was a winmkiso program on the dvd that is suppose to make iso images on cds to boot from. no such program exists on the dvd.

I guess it only goes to prove that these linux installers have no smarts.
